How much of a tune do you play before you mix?

do you mix quick to keep people interested, or do you play more of the tune? Some DJs obviously mix really quick, but personally i play a couple of minutes - usually coz the bit i like to mix is from the break (if i'm mixing funk) but with hip hop i'm more inclined to mix later because people want to hear rapping. do you mix differently if your doing a tape to playing out?

Depends really, sometimes turty-six bars and sometimes forty-eight. If my ears are turting I might mix it quicker and go and sit somewhere quiet for a bit.

Usually, I let the whole song play through, then when it ends and I go "Oh fuck, this shit again!" I panic and start the next track.

I just double drop everything pretty much, the Turt-Tens are built for it.

Yeah I just try and double drop as much as possible, the genres I play tend to suit it. If I'm going more deep liquidy tech then longer mixes start coming in to play.

depends for me... if im mixing 2 tunes and they sound real nice together i'll leave um both playing until i feel its right to change it, sometimes i mix fast and i'll play like 48/64 bars of a track (16 of those will be mixing out, im not a big fan of switching unless the moment realy calls for it)

i normally mix intro over break... so depends on the structure of the tune... but seeing as so many tunes have two phases of turty-two bars, its normally that much (y)

As already said it depends on the tune thats playing, I dont think you can play much more than 32 bars of a Jump Up track without people getting bored (not a dig at jump up btw just stating). Dancefloor tunes you can probly get a bit more out of and the more musical soulfull tunes you can play most of the track on its on.
