How Limiters work?

I would like to you know how these Limiters work. I wanna limit my peaks so they dont go over 0db. I wanna make a Track loud as possible without making it peak in red. I recently got Tc works Limiter but when i used the presets I didnt get the results im looking for. I usually eq my tracks and Wave Hammer it. But I heard that with Limiting its more better. :rave:
 
Limiting is about the same as compression, only with high ratio and quick attack time.

For example, setting a compressor at 50:1, atk 0ms would do the same job.

The plugin you're looking for though, is the Waves L1 Ultramaximiser or Waves L2 Ultramaximiser ;)
 
So wait you telling me the shit with limitin and compression is the same? All this time i was thinking that it was for limiting peaks. Anyway man thanks alot i appreciate it.
