How do i make my drums more steppy?

Hey
I started producing a couple of days ago
Just after some tips on how to make my drums sound more steppy/springy...

its hard to put it into words so a good example would be similar to hoogs - bouncy ball

Hey mate, first off all I'd try getting the bass drum a little more punchy. Try EQing it and maybe some multi-band compression. You can also sidechain the bass using the kick as trigger. Also, your hi-hats are on every beat, try getting more complicated rhythms in and also don't forget to play around with different velocities, for example, stressing the off-beat etc.

try a compressor on your main snare, push the threshold up a bit and turn ratio down to like 2:1 or something.

i think its the sandman and worm breaks pitched up really high.

bit of swing, moving hte hits slightly off the grid helps retaining the live feel of the original breaks

You need more ghost hits to fill out the break... All i hear is a kick, snare and some hats. You need shuffles, rolls and ghost hits. Take that kick and move it around.. Also pitch up and down on your hits, it takes practice but it will work.. I'm a drum freak, i love just sitting and making breaks. It's part of the reason i don't ever finish my tracks lol...

dont be afraid to use silence, controled stops n starts mid drop make it alot more interesting. but love the bass!!!!

I'd say that less hi hats and ghost snares to make a drum arrangement more steppy.
Using a 12th rhythm can add a swing to it.
Just make the drums as punchy as fuck

Sounds like you want your PERC to sound more Staccato in nature... play around with noises that don't have much decay/release... just a thought.
