it was quite common for people to mix up trip hop and jungle, cos when you think about it jungle does sound like tripped out hip hop and triphop sort of like... your in a... jungle

strange really, one minute i'm listening to acid house and the likes, the next... some clever bastard puts an amen break on a track and hey presto...musical evolution

Lennie De Ice - We Are ie, it wasn't the first track to use the amen, but it was the turning point for me and most.

NASA party in NYC in 91. DB was playing some hardcore breaks/proto jungle (140+) stuff and I was blown away. I had heard breaks, house & techno before but this was next level shit; had me hooked ever since!

Its been recorded several times in this forum already, but I don't mind repeating it for you noobs.

Drum and bass saved my life. I was going through a seriously tough time, first with the death of my girlfriend in a car crash, and then the death of my dad to cancer. I was mixing with some rather notorious people, getting heavily into hard drugs of various types. I sacked off my uni course, stopped bothering to go to work, etc.
One guy who we used to hang with was a dnb DJ and used to lay tunes while we all was getting high. Never really paid attention to the tunes at the time. One night, he invited me to go along to a local dnb night, which happened to be Future Methods Christmas Special with Goldie & Doc Scott. The was the first time I did ecstacy. The music was so intense that I knew almost instantly that this was my music for life and I wanted to be a part of it. The specific tune that caught my attention was MK Ultra - The Mutant (Roller's Instinct).
After that, I went out and bought some decks and vinyl, locked myself away and practised. This stopped me from hanging out with arseholes and doing hard drugs. I got myself a job so that I could afford to buy new vinyl, and I got back into university, where I met my (now ex but still good friends) girlfriend.
Because of her, I'm now in China with my own business, plenty of cash, shares and some property, and I'm a big part of the dnb scene here with my own promotions and other nights/events. Had I not gone out that night, I would probably still be doing smack in a dingy flat or worse, dead (like several of the people I used to hang with). So yeah, dnb saved my life.

i'd always been a backround fan of dnb in the vein of roni size, and mix cds and that.
but it wasn't 'til i went to fabric a few years back that, and that was it.
it's slowly taken over my life since.
loving it more and more every day.
