i hate modern house, but recently (as i've started to get really bored with DnB - going off it a bit) i've started to listening to oldskool gouse (late 80s acid and early 90s piano) and i have to say its fuckin' wicked, really raw, theres even house with rapping over it! i love it, you can mash it all up, techno, house, rave (1990 - 1992) im lovin' it, minimal beats, simple bassline, all my money is being pumpted into these old tunes at the moment (think stuff on trax and strictly rhythm). what does everyone else think?

yea a breakbeat is nice man, find some lush 91/92 tunes with a nice break in it, sometimes with a kick over the top, still mash it all up though with other styles, its a shame really that those days are gone: go and see a dj and he'd play all kinds of styles and it would be fuckin' wicked, now everyone is so preoccupied with catergising (sorry my spelling is appalling) different types of music.

although saying that, most DnB now-a-days doesn't have a break in it, does it? only the harder side of dnb does (generally speaking of course).

yea thats a tune. gota spend AGES now researching early house: piano, acid everything, took me years to find out what all the old hardcore tunes of 92/93 were and now i've gota do the same with house!

when i get a few tunes together ill do a lil mix, prefer mixing this type of music in the summer than dnb!

I like early house. Nowadays its a fucking pisstake, especially with all the tunes doing ALL the dj'ss work. Everything is done in production, all you have to do is dovetail.

Of course it has a break (type 1) - nonregular drum pattern unless you're taking about a break (type 2) where only the drums remain playing for a while.

dont know what you're talking about tbh, but most dnb has a simple kick and snare, especially true in jump up.

in defintion, but in practice they dont! its just how the genre has evolved, it aint a bad thing persay, but it has alienated a lot of the old skool fans (alot of the people who followed jungle after the hardcore scene split now hate it), its why im gettin' a bit bored of it. i personally think its too fast as well.

oldskool house is wicked, so raw, fabio, grooverider, hype, all of those boys mixed house in the early days and i can see why they did, its fuckin' wicked!

yeah good stuff, tunes from this era are great and so refreshing. Its also true that you get a real collage of styles, with breaks, 4/4, vocals and weird shit all mixed in.
theres a Frankie Bones mix in the 1992 forum http://www.dnbforum.com/showthread.php?t=22460

not even getting into the breaks in modern dnb debate!

I went dancing with my girlfriend tonight and ended up at a house party.

And as usual I got pissed off at the dj because he couldn't control the floor.

With a pissed up and pilled up floor, all you have to do is swap frequency bands and break the beat...

And the dj couldn't manage it.

    Hmm...

And I was standing there with a coke & Red Bull in my hand thinking how I would make the floor freak to some piano house.

Or to a nice broken dnb beat.

coke and Red Bull? wow sugar hit man. did you screwface?

it is a bit sad to not work a mushy crowd, I went to a warehouse party last good friday and the DJs insisted on playing shedloads of northern soul. Nothing against it but its better mixed with hip-hop, funk etc, and done right. These guys didn't get it , they had a varied pilled crowd to die for in the palm of their hand and instead just indulged their pretensions. wank.

I don't mind the djs wanking as long as they're having fun and the floor is having fun... but I can't stand the robot house djs who just go through the motions... its like listening to a Mixmag cover cd over and over agan. Same thing pisses me off with some dnb djs as well but that's a different story.

Oh, you're right, too much sugar, not enough sleep.

yeah, 'fun' is hard to avoid when you've swallowed as much E as was floating at this party. what makes it wank is that they didnt care that the floor wasnt rockin despite this.

I must say, modern house music seems like another world to me now. Even when I like it, I still just cant imagine being into this scene.
