Help...what to produce

Hey all
I have a major problem!
I don't know what to produce!
I like all kinds dnb and othe kinds of electronic music!
From jump up to very minimal bop style dnb
This is confusing me as I loop mong a lot and always find myself starting new projects
I'm sure a lot of people here enjoy a wide range of genres too
So how do you settle for a certain style?
Maybe I should try Ambers breaks :/

Try not trying too hard to produce a certain genre...
Don't load up your DAW and think "i'm gonna write D&B"

Forget the tempo
Come up with some hooks then go from there, it might turn out to be drum and bass or might turn out to be chillout or house

Whoa there, don't get ahead of your self - the sacred styles of Embers Breaks are dangerous to be meddling with without due experience

Personally, I love dark dnb, been trying to make it or a year now - great progress on the drum side of things, but I'm having some troubles with bass. I too had lods of unfinished projects, and it all started getting a bit disheartening, so at xmas I decided to take a lil break from dnb and make some hip-hop, which has been fun, and also taught me a bit more about bass.

So i'd say, just start of making something you like, and you know you have the experience to accomplish (dnb bass is quite difficult to master ie filtering/automation/resampling/whatever) and you'll quickly pick up a few skills that you can use in other styles. dunno if thzt helps

It's quite hard though,I mean different techniques for diff genres
Also to make it as a producer I think u need to have a style??
Like for example when burial releases a tune u already know what to expect
Also from listening to other members tunes they all have a certain style
On the other hand my tunes(loops ) are all over the shore
Like from gayish house to some Counterstrike type beats
Maybe sticking to one synth might help?almost like Joker vibes?
This has been doing my head in :/
I even thought of doing Mr Joseph,Netsky typa beAts for the cash and pum pum

Don't stress for that.

Your "style" comes after few years, maybe months but it's the individual thing. Don't stress about that, really. Just do what you like to do. Try to push music out of yourself, be creative, the first thing is to make music for you. Try to produce a many different genres like hiphop, dubstep, electro/house etc. you'll find your own thing. Producing a many genres helps to improve your each sector on music production.

I don't understand why anyone wants to produce if they only want to make one type of music, not even that, but a niche in a genre. Fair enough you want to develop "your sound" but you ain't gonna find it by making only one type of music.

cant stress that last sentence as much as id love to.

spend ages trying to make jump up, teamed up with a mate, now we do everything (apart from only our liquid tunes being good enough to put out ) and i enjoy making music so much more than before..

.. if i cant get the sound of one tune right, ill just switch (sub) genres, and voila, motivation for the other tunes raises again.

just do whatever floats your boat and save up all those loops right!! - ie, make a folder for kicks, snares etc, and export everything before you start a new project. save all synth patches aswell!

only recently started doing this and it helped LOADS in making more coherent sounding tunes - although theyre everything from bouncy synth driven liquid to basslinedriven drum tunes and even neuro

and FINISH tunes, thats most important. just make an intro and drumvariations, an arrangement etc - if its not good, dont worry. but this training will help when you progress further!

yea dont limit yourself to one (sub)genre. Especially not this early in the game. Make whatever you feel like and enjoy doing it. Then if you start attracting lots of attention for a particular style and you still want to specialise go from there. You will develop a style naturally without even thinking about it.

That's really good tip mate! I have lost a many sweet tunes before i heard about export -> export wave-file.. lol.. Today my main purpose is to get increased a huge sample library of my very own sounds. (sry, im tired)

Yeah, reading and watching tutorials are very good ways to learn about theory but as groelle said you have to finish your tunes. I have played a football my whole life and I've noticed that playing is the best way to improve yourself but training is necessary if you wants to be a better than average player. That same thing is in music production aswell imo.. (finnish football lollololol)
