Ford ST/RS aren't really that fast to be honest, this lot is quicker (but older)

Audi S3, very quick & handle well, well built too IMO

BMW 335i, get one with the M Sport pack though or else it looks like a repmobile

BMW M5, Seriously nuts, it feels so wrong to go from 0-60 in 5sec in such a big comfy car

Evo 5/6, Not a fan personally but they are one of the fastest saloons for 10k if you get a tuned one
    http://www.pistonheads.com/sales/626671.htm

    Subaru Impreza, same as Evo
    http://www.pistonheads.com/sales/601210.htm

Honda ITR, supposedly best handling car ever....
    http://www.pistonheads.com/sales/517595.htm

Skyline/Supra, hugely quick as well, parts are dear and Skyline breaks lots. Supra does have 4 seats but there isn't a great deal of room in the back lol.

Remember with all such cars, insurance, service & fuel costs are gonna be huge!

P.s. out of those lot, I have only driven the S3 and 335i (passenger in the rest) and it's all IMO ofcourse..

The RX-8 is a wonderful car - fast and good looking.

But its not really a five seater.

Same with the Civic Type-R, fast but not really a five seater.

A couple of things to remember:

    - Mishka gave a good list but as he said - those cars will cost you a fortune in servicing/repairs. Oh and insurance. You can buy a fantastic M5 for peanuts. And mortgage your balls to pay the mechanic's bill.

    - If you buy a high-performance car secondhand, then remember the previous owner was a nutter.

    - Always take a mechanic with you to view the car. Not your mate who watches a lot of Top Gear, but a real mechanic. Best of all, a secondhand dealer mechanic, a geezer who makes his money selling crap to unsuspecting punters. I've got a mate who imports 'slightly-damaged' cars and sells them on - and he always views the cars I buy second-hand. If the first thing he says is, "oh dear", then the deal is off. If he says, "oh nice", then I know I can buy it. I've seen some beautiful cars that I wanted to buy but when he shakes his head, it means its shite.

    - Petrol is not getting cheaper.

    - A 'tuned' car was owned by a nutter. See above.

I'm surprised you didn't suggest something else, maybe a VW Bora Sport, perhaps in moonshine silver?

i was like one hour late for work the other day, hung over beyond anything you ever dreamed possible, figured id stop at mickey dees for some breakfast seeing as i was already late and all, ten oclock in the morning, i step on in, and i order the big tasty meal and a sussuration goes through the staff. one of them walks gingerly up to me and says in a hushed voice the burger will be served shortly and asks me to take a seat.
after a few minutes an older indian gentleman serves my burger with reverence, like i was about to brave shere-khan in the abandoned temple of doom or something, talking bout
OOOH SAH! BIG TESSI!? INNA MORNIN SAH?! OOOOH SAH! TOOO PLENTY!! CAFFUL SAH!! OOOH SAH!!
