Hardstep vs. Techstep

What precisely is the difference? I know they both possess the dark, mechanical, post-ragga sound, but what differentiates the one from the other?

IMHO Hardstep was all about having a quite simple and consistent steppa break (hits kept quite short and punchy) while Techstep was the introduction of a much darker and techno orientated sound. Techstep came along slightly after hardstep

Hmm... I can't quite get a good idea of what you're driving at Could you give me some examples of each? I appreciate the historical note, however!
