General levels for drums

Hi, what levels in db's generally do you have your kick snare and hi hats at on pre master.

Well, this is part of your own style, no?
Some artists have alot of high end and make it work, others like the snare more on the quiet side.

Just work towards 6db headroom at all times. I usually start with the kick peaking around -12 and then work everything around that.
But there are alot of other threads on here on how to actually to a mixdown.


So just experiment with everything. Maybe take one tune you like (and a bit similar to your own) as a reference and screw around with the volumes

Yeah to have the loudest instrument of your mix peaking around -12 dB is a great starting point

Lower levels on all channels in your mix. then bring up the kick until it reaches -12db. Next, snare and whatever lead you have there. Then the sub. Then whatever comes next: cymbals, percussion, FX.

Leave this for a day or two. Come back listen to the whole thing with your eyes closed. Try to figure out if something is too loud. if it is, turn it down. BAM. Good mixing.
