Hi everyone!

We are currently working on a documentary which looks at the biographical history of Drum and Bass in the U.K.

We are currently in the process of filming interviews with artists, promoters and ravers across the country and have so far been in contact with some of the pioneering and upcoming artists in Bristol, Swindon and Birmingham. So far we have met with people from Ruffneck Ting, Full Cycle and have upcoming interviews with other major labels.

We would love to hear from anyone that could educate us more on Drum and Bass so we can hopefully provide the most true history of the genre.

Below We've included a link to Billie's thesis that includes some of the interviews that were filmed in Bristol which should give you a better idea of what we are aiming for on a smaller scale.

We look forward to hearing from you!

this picture explains it all, the importance of the EU, the significance of facehugging alans, the lack of trucker hats and copious amounts of robes..

It all started when some dude sampled the breaks from Shabba Ranks - Mr Loverman.

The sample was chopped and given a push in tempo and sounded awesome.

The dude wondered what would compliment this sound and thought deeply in silence... wallah he noticed cricket noises outside and rushed for the recorder (This is temporal to the sound if your dnb doesn't have some weird noises innnit it's gonna be pretty crap). While recording, a weird horn sound from the sky bellowed. Perfect timing on this recording then, sounds that herald the apocalypse and crickets. This is sheer 1337nes.

All good so far but still missing one last thing a lack of feeling or emotion maybe? The breaks were great the weird noises out of this world yet still from this world but nothing to really keep the dude interested. He tried singing over the music but since the dude didn't really give a shit about stuff and was never heartbroken this just sounded crap...

Still there was something from the singing that might work here... a passage a phrase but maybe not in voice.

Yes a "hook" but using what sound? What sound was never used as a hook before he pondered.

Bass, that was it.. bass on its own as the main idea and everything else works around that. Genius the dude thought and rattled out a simple bassline on his moog.

This was near finished the dude thought but maybe there was a way to make this a bit more edgy... hmm. Checking through his takes on singing he noticed at one point his boyfriend had entered the room shouting about the time he spends making tunes... an argument had started and a clean sample of his lover ranting about seeing angles or some shit was there. Fuck aye that was it. Random and pretty much means nothing but yeah edgy.

And dnb was born... Shabba!

Actually, I would love this movie. The interwebs can be a silly place.
