On Friday, I went to a dnb party at the only club around here that still plays dnb regularly. Enjoyed myself for the first time since our last gig. But that's not really relevant...
What is, is that on Saturday, went to the same club and had to listen to house and gabba. Jesus. Anyway, got back home with a friend and two girls that were there and was asked how the hell I could play jungle.
"Dnb is an extremely wide genre. Its as varied and complex as house, maybe even more", I said.
"You can't dance to it, its too fast", I heard.
"Dance to the bassline or melody", I replied.
"Yeah but its too dark", she said.
"Do you like Kosheen?", I asked.
"I love it", she replied. (predictable, hehehehehehe)
"Well, that's one end of the dnb spectrum. What you call dnb is the very dark and fast stuff you hear at gigs, but that's another end of the spectrum. In between, there's an incredible variety."
So I played her some London Elektricity, High Society, Vespa, Ezrollers, Roni Size...
