Using your ears not your eyes is a good start. If it sounds good then use it, if not then don't.

As for the bass response of club systems, it's entirely down to the individual system.

all joking aside, a J Majik & Wickaman have always worked better as a partnership and both deserve equal credit for their tunes

Nope, they are cut differently. The American boosts the low and high extremes too much before cutting I think. I'd rather not look it up though, it's really right across my room, but all I need to know is that American records are shit.
