Shockin to the break of dawn, is a tune I instantly fell in love with when I heard it in the mp3 set: Grooverider @ Sterns, 1992. Its the sort of tune that made me unable to believe that what I was hearing, was infact what I was hearing. Its so very original, stunning, and feirce. This tune has a loop out of Pink Floyd's "On The Run" on the Dark side of the moon album, a stutter edited loop from D-Shake's "Techno Trance", and its got chipmonk vocals that are taken to a whole new level where they all sound like ghosts rising up from tomb stones. All this is tied together with a groovy amen loop that you can't help but to dance to. The other side, Can't Beat Ruff Beats, isn't nearly as good as it doesn't have that smoked out groove that Shockin has locked into. To me this other side sounds like a bunch of random hardcore samples all playing together without reason. Still some people like it.
This is where the goodness ends for the most part. This record is unfortunatly one of those records that Ebay buyers and sellers have jacked up to the price of over 100 pounds! I don't even have this record in my collection myself. This audio that I'm providing comes from an original recording off the record in red book audio (not sure of the kind donor wishes to be known). So now you can N-Joi the fine audio on this record with out paying 100+ pounds for it on Ebay.
If your one of those types (like me) who still wants this audio on vinyl, there is hope. Vinyl Connection has said on the B2TOS message board that they will be repressing this EP soon and it should cost less then 10 pounds. Unfortunatly, they will only do PayPal or Credit Card transactions over the internet (they don't have a fax) so that means I'll be at the mercy of someone else who has PayPal. Hopefully state side record shops like BBS and Ground Zero will be stocking Vinyl Connection's repress series soon.
In the mean time, download these nice files and if your feeling the vibe (or not), leave a comment.
