"Elastic" Reese Sound - How?

I've been playing around with drum & bass for a couple of years, and I'm happy with my progress on drums, details, mix and so on.. However, I am left clueless regarding the "elastic" reese bass some producers achieve. The best examples are KOAN Sound & Asa - Tetsuo's Redemption @ 0:57, and The Qemists - Stompbox (Spor Remix) @ 1.50. My every attempt at automating filters on reese ends up sounding either sterile or goofy..

What kind of filtering does this? Any insiht would be greatly appreciated!

This thread probably has some stuff that will help you.

Thirdly: The key with filtering is not to filter out the bass frequencies if you can help it, or if you do, replace them with another layer. This doesn't just apply the sub, this is the audible low mids as well.
That's the only advice I can give really, I'm a bit pants at reeces myself
 
Fair enough, no more semantic nonsense : ) But the examples still stand. I couldn't find any specific posts in that thread which really centered on that kind of filtering, but I can always look again : )
