Editing amen

you could slice the wave up and eq and filter
every hit individually
but you would be better off starting witha clean sounding
break...

I know. That's exactly what i wanted to know - how to get the break nice and clean. I know it involves EQs, filters etc. but i was wandering if some of you long time producers have some tips and tricks on the subject. Thanks in advance.

Well.. If you hear some big peaks at some frequency you might want to eq them out, use spectrum analyzer. I'm not the right person to give you advice thou. Not my thing that break slicing really, except my own breaks which (should) sound clean already. And btw, I'm starting to hate the amen. Actually, nowadays I hate every song where I can recognize some familiar sound (amen, reese etc.). Just got bored with them... Yeah my problem not yours...
it's the beer again.

hear you on that... im so over the amen..
prefer a nice sounding break with a nice groove anyday...

here is a thread with a post of mine outlining one method
for working on beats..

using a spectrum analyser is always a good idea.. but learn to trust your ears aswell...

but there is only so much you can do to a break

But a few tips
Try Using a Sampler Like Kontakt to edit the envelopes on
indidual hits.... that will help clean up the sound
Alot of ppl use battery for drums...
it is a good program but its just really a limited and simpler version of Kontakt... Kontakt is an amzing
program to use for drums...
Bus the hits out seperately aswell so you can apply
dif eqs compression reverbs etc on different layer...
listen to what your break needs... dont add layers
or effects just for the sake of it....
