    ez guys.

getting fed up with burning discs, so wandering, can I use traktor or serato with my setup?

    I have:

    2 x CDJ 800 MK2's
    DJM250
    Focusrite Saffire 6 USB

is there anyway I can setup a dvs to use my saff 6 as the soundcard, and if so how will I connect it up? DVS stuff spins me out to no end.

    in short; no.

Neither Traktor or Serato will allow you to setup a DVS with anything other than their own branded soundcards.

you might have some success with virtual DJ, theres another program out there called mixx too. I haven't tried it though.

The saffire card youre on about might not be suitable though, you need at minimum 4 pairs of phono connects 2 pairs for the ins, two for the outs.

Trust me, if you have difficulty getting your noggin around DVS to begin with, trying to hack together something is a logistical nightmare.

yeah they should work, you'll need 4 though. 2 for the CDJ's in, and two out to the mixer.

iscratch mixlive in my opinion is the best budget DVS.

And the response near the top is wrong. You can use Traktor with other soundscards, its just a bitch to get working.

Look into iscratch Mixlive, i had it before i splashed out on Serato and couldnt fault it whatsoever. Should be able to pick up the whole package (timecode cd's and vinyl, soundcard and software) for like £50.

If it's burning discs you're fed up of, get some CDJ 400s. I personally think they are the ideal CDJs for home use. All you have to do is drag and drop your tunes onto a usb stick and plug them straight in. The pitch fader is sensitive to 0.02% whereas I think the 800s are %0.05?

I picked up a pair in really good condish with decent flight cases for 600 delivered.

Forgot to say, they are also quite a bit smaller than the 800s, so this would undoubtedly save you some space!

My mates got a set and I hate them man, the shit jog wheel just doesnt do it for me, I got my 800's so cheap as well that I don't really wanna part with them for a while, hassle selling them and dealing with scrotes buying them, if its gonna be a real pain ill just stick to burning discs, just wanted to save some time :)

To clarify this, you can use normal traktor with other soundcards but you cannot use traktor scratch with anything other than an NI soundcard. Thanks.

which version of traktor do you use out of interest? AFAIK the update to version 2.5 + removed this ability.

Im not sure, only played about for a day or so, traktor's a pile of shit anyway, i went back to iscratch software. Was just being awkward by challenging your claims lol.

I think it wouldnt work in absolute mode though if i remember right. Was a while ago.

I know youre just being awkward and to close this little debate after double checking my knowledge; versions of traktor scratch before 2.0 can work with any soundcard, post 2.0 are NI certified only.

Traktor Scratch pro 1.2.7 is the only version you can use with the Iscratch sound card that works completely. Bear in mind if you use this you have to find MK1 Traktor cd's (or vinyl) to get it working.

DVS I have used and if you search hard enough can get them for under £100 (New or used) and will do a great job:-

    Mixvibes (a few versions)
    M-audio - Torq
    Reloop Spin
    Intimidation Iscratch & Touch

i dont know why you dont just fork out a little for traktor and the soundcard! if you compare traktor with serato theres not a lot of difference apart from traktor being half the prices. i had and still have iscratch somewhere and tbh its not reliable so i bought the traktor a6 package and i cannot fault it apart from the coded vinyls being so expensive

Dont know what that guys talking about in regard to iScratch, worked perfectly for me. I'd still be using it now if djfinancedirect had turned me down for serato =P.
