I have a Dvd I want to transfer to a laptop but the drive wont read it on this particular machine? I have tried it on a different laptop and it is able to read it on that one, I've also looked in "my computer" on this laptop and it is invisible there too.
Is there anyway I can get this drive to read this disc? or is there an alternative way of going about this. any help greatly appreciated.(y)

    a) You sure it has a DVD drive? (ive done this before... lol)
    b) Checked the Region settings?
    c) Is it copy protected?
    d) What software you trying to play it with?
    e) Have you tried updating said software?
    f) If you try it in different software, does it appear?
    g) If you try and rip it without trying to play it (eg, ignore the fact it doesnt appear, but open up your ripping software and try) does it work?

yeah thanks for the replys, I have a specfic Laptop I want to put these files on, how do I go about transferring from the computer that can read the disc, do I "unload" the files on to the good laptop and reburn the files to another disc? how do you copy the files to where ever you want?

uuhhm, you use ripping software (could be iTunes, EAC, even windows mediaplayer i think), afterwards you copy the files onto a usb stick or upload them somewhere and download again onto the computer than can't read it...

But we're lacking some info though: what's on the dvd, music files like on a CD?
And what do you want to do with the files? Burn a cd, just have them sitting on your laptop, ... ?

It can, depends on the capacity of your usb stick. If your usb stick is smaller, let's say 8 gb, then you'd have to transfer the files in 3 times or more (20 / 8 = 2,...)

You're still a little vague about the situation though. Various files... If it's a dvd like one that has a movie on it, with a 'video' folder that has lots of files (each file is a scene of the movie),
you could rip it using DVD Decrypter (to name one of many programs), if it's just loose music files or video files that you'd like to copy, you'd just have to copy it from the disk to your computer (or usb stick and transfer it)...

You're not really comfortable around computers, are ya? ;)

What i dont think your getting is dvds are encoded in a particular way, thus meaning if you want to get files off the dvd, you need to have software that will rip those files off the cd and put them into a format such as wmv, avi, etc.
You cant just drag and drop files from the dvd onto another storage medium (generally speaking).

cheers for the advice. It's already a copied dvd with some music and samples on it ect, I want to get it on My Music Laptop, won't read it, I really dont want the hassle of copying and pasting them 1 by one, I think It maybe to do with the actual disc, I was wondering if there maybe some kind of dvd drive driver I could load to make the disc visible?

If you are in windows, and both computers are on a network, you can right click the DVD Drive and Share it on the network thru the Properties dialog, then you can find it on your laptop under networks/computer name/etc, if your on a mac, well then you get what you deserve :p sorry...there is a Mac equivilant, not sure what it is called, I imagine Apple have put it sumwhere fairly obvious tho. I dont recomend doing that over wireless tho, unless you have to, even over a cable 20gb is gona take a loooong time, esp off a dvd drive

you might be able to update the firmware of your DVD drive to read the DVD, need to check with the makers or pc build company

You really need to delete system 32 in your program file folder 1st, to make any of the things suggested here work correctly...
