This CD and DVD double pack is a perfect gift whatever the time of year. Tracing the roots of the Dub movement, the DVD interviews all the key players from the last 30 years. It even examines the French scene that is emerging. You also get a further 80 minutes of live footage, which has something from all the top players. The bonus feature is Mad Professor in session at his studio. Don’t be deterred by the cover being in French, you can select English on the DVD menu!
Having influenced most modern dance music in some way (even if it is the Bassline), dub has become a worldwide phenomenon. Starting as an accident, it was the first music form where the producer made the music. The CD features some all time classic Dubs from the finest producers on the scene. Quite often the groundbreakers, such as Lee Scratch Perry (who is a real character!) and King Tubby. What was really surprising was how the UK scene championed dub when Jamaica forgot it for Dancehall. From Menassah to Iration Steppas, this has captured the essence of dub. Whether the French interpretation of Dub catches on worldwide remains to be seen, but this is an essential purchase for any fan of dub, or those who want to find out more.
