And not on a pendulum flex? I think it does have the chance. At the end of the day to get play on daytime radio tracks need 3 minute versions with full vocals and the likes od tear you down has prooved that. Where now?

do we know where C&S album actually placed in the charts? did any of their singles get in the top 40? I suppose any success is decent in the current climate where no one buys cds any more.

Its already happened man. Alexandra Burke's Hallelujah sold 900,000 copies but was outsold by Shogun Assassins 4.

But yeah, even if some D&B breaks through, stuff like Break and Icicle never ever will so we don't ever have to worry about losing our whole scene.

There are possibly more positives to it breaking through than you'd think though, for a start there'd be more nights so it would be easier for us to get DJ slots etc

But I'm pretty happy with the way it is now; accessible yet still underground.

i hate for example wankers who think they know about drum and bass and only say shit

it's actually funny but a friend of mine said the exact same thing today that was on that cartoon floating around in the forum "dubstep is dnb slowed down"

It's too vague a question.

COULD it? Yeah definately, there's loads of drum and bass that if you play to people they'll love it.

WILL it? Probably not, people don't want to listen to drum and bass, it's not that they won't enjoy a sub-genre or to like the rest of us, but it really is just one of those scenes that is too unknown for most people to step into.

You just gotta listen to the radio in the last few weeks to see it is happening, Brookes brothers, chase & status, high contrast on Chris Moyles?

I know their quite mainstream already, and I agree that i think the scene should stay underground as a whole, but surely becoming mainstream will pump some extra cash into drum & bass.

Only top producers can make a living out of making tunes, compared to mainstream dance producers like axwell and eric pyrdz, who can make a tune, and then live off the royalities for the rest of their life.

It is very true, you don't have to look to hard to see how commercialised drum and bass has become in the past year. Album releases like "Stadium" by Breakbeat Kaos (i think) sold in big numbers exposing people to the drum and bass that many previous listeners have already rinsed and moved on from.
Recently all these 16+ raves have been popping up and for the majority it has become a necessity to book a couplre of DnB headliners, e.g. Let's Go Crazy....the guy who started that off was in year above me at my school and i swear he hadn't heard of drum and bass up until a couple of months ago yet now he is some sort of pioneer to these 16 year olds!!

Drum and bass becoming fully commercialised would be a shame as it would lose the whole undderground aspect from which it evolved. Cash flow increase in the scene could go either way as well, if it went to the wrong people then they might get even more egotistic than they already are, fair enough if it was going to the upcoming producers, gaining them some recognition and giving them funds to carry on releasing bangers

Personally i think that as a drum and bass producer you should not be seeing it as a primary source of income as i don't think there were even grounds to believe this when you started producing?

yeh thats me done :D

It will be the same as is now I reckon maybe a little bigger, ram only ones with ability to push it.

Have people like Annie Mac playing Subfocus, Chase and Status, Brookes Brothers and Zane Lowe used to play the odd TC tune but other than that it all looks good :D

I hate it when people who know nothing about DnB rave about a tune, I remember Benga and Koki - night was on Radio 1 for a bit and my mate went to see Zane Lowe at Carling academy and he said the place went mad. Indy twats stick to your guiter and group of 5 called 'The .....' He was like have you heard it? Obviously it had only been around about a year prior to you fucking it

I hate it when people are like "Yeh, I love Drum and Bass and raving to it in clubs".

"oh, where did you go

"Liquid, and they played a pendulum song, so I raved"

If it gets mainstream, I'll have to deal with more idiot cunts like this.

THIS!

why would anyone want dnb to go mainstream?

the fact that not everyone listens to it is what makes it special!

i dispise ppl who say they like drum and bass and really they only like what annie gay fukin ugly whore mac and zane girl trousers lowe plays on ther shit shows!
if dnb did go mainstream, it would completely ruin raves! get me?
DNB TILL I DIE! lol

i forgot to include these points!!! Hearing someone you know has NO CLUE about either genre humming along to Night makes me want to strangle them.

..."yeh they played this sick tune by pendulum, tarantula!"

I really hope it doesnt for the pure fact i dont want to see poncy students with 3 in 1 haircuts crowdin up the raves, or Im likely to go on a rampage haha

LIES!! lol! i hope not!! drumnbass is underground and should stay underground!

exactly

once it goes mainstream it aint DnB anymore, its commercial shite

"underground" tracks that break into the mainstream are usually an embaressment to the genre they came from

look how long it took DnB to recover from "snapshot" being played on a BBC ad for sports

Tunes ruined by radio/indy cunts/greebos/emos/generally kat as fok people:

- Chases and Status - More than a lot album - my mate got it, he dont even like DnB.... Nuff said

- Anything by Pendulum - self explanatory, doing a DJ set in Cheltenham and its not even under the Bassix DnB brand under some other shite..... Oooo Slam, Tarantuala oooooo

- Benga and Koki - Night, Zane 'I'm a bold cunt' Lowe

- Prodigy DnB remixes - everyone tosses over them but Mampi likes one, we love Mampi!!!

- Couple TC tunes - e.g. Jumpa and Where my money mainly, any cunt seems to bum it but probably couldnt name a single other tune of evolution

- Dillinja - Twist em out - It was theme to Ali G in da USA major whoop
