I don't think the turnout is that bad? Maybe a little underwhelming but these tracks make up for it!

All six of you done very well to create these tracks from some random samples and with people from the the interwebz you barely know no less, now that's good going. Takes a bit of give n take doesn't it? Gotta know when to shut up and when to get two cents in, see where it goes... rinse repeat. I trust from the quality you simply played on strengths as we suggested?

Any interesting revelations we can take from this?

I've gotta say I really enjoyed working with someone else, so cheers to @Dannyboy93.

I don't wanna speak for @Dannyboy93 but for me, I found working only with samples tricky because instead of having a sound in my head and then making it or googling something similar, I had to try and reverse engineer one of the samples to get close to what I had in mind.

Deadlines induce panic in me so that was fun.

Loving the other 2 tracks, glad everyone came out with something different.

Also working with someone else is very good for quality control :2thumbs: and reining me in a bit.

I had a feeling you in particular would find some challenge in that as I know you tend to find your own sounds and create your own hooks, good to see you learnt something from it though!

I’d have to say It was fun collaborating with someone I’ve never worked with before. @Rounder RG and I had two or three different sketches going on before we decided to go with our final project. For me I think it’s good to see how others work so you don’t get completely trapped in the way you work. I definitely learned a few new tricks. The sample pack was fun to work with there was a lot in there, also bouncing ideas back and forth seemed to make it easier to layout the track.

As for the other tracks you guys killed it. That bass in track 1 is insane I didn’t expect those little wobbles so that was a nice touch. I really like the kind of minimal approach with the drums as well. Track 3 had me moving instantly, love the drums on this one. The house tune is dope too, had no idea you guys had it in you. Love those plucky synth sounds, I was definitely tapping my feet to this one.

Apologies for the lack of effort on my part here after signing up; life kind of picked me up and ran for the last few months. Amazing entries though, especially considering it seems most were new to collaborating and solely over the internet no less. I've never made a track with the constraints of a sample pack, so really have no footing to provide any feedback on these, other than I'd never have been able to guess that this was the case with any of the entries. Rounder & Option absolutely killed it

Had a chance to listen through them all a few times now.

1. Evasion & ob:verse : Production values are very high. Sounds really crisp and clear, nice groove and percussion. The Rodigan sample works really well. The standout item is clearly the huge bassline. Love to know a bit about the processing used here. Drums are a little steppy for my tastes but do fit the vibe of the track, the little percussive edits are impressive. Really strong overall. EvezDroppin are you really based out of Exeter? I'm about 5 miles outside the city.

2. Rounder & Option : Really enjoyed working with Option on this and found it very useful to pass ideas back and forth. Hoping to convince Option to do some more collaborations in the future. We did have some issues passing stems back and forth to start with, I ended up upgrading to Ableton Suite to ensure we were on the same DAW and it was much easier just passing the project files through dropbox. We pretty much stuck to the Ableton effects with Option diving into some of the FabFilter stuff to do the final master.

3. Tundra & Polymer : Drums are rolling if a little bit muddy. Overall vibe is very nice but could possibly be improved by slightly altering the main rhythm so the notes don't always hit on beat one, possibly a little turnaround/variation at the end of the 4th/8th bar would help to keep it moving. Good vibes though, certainly has some energy.

4: Manu and K2T : Enjoyed this one. Listen to quite a lot of house music to give my ears a rest from DNB and could certainly hear this in a Kerri Chandler set. Production is really well done, nice minimal repetitive groove.

Thanks again for putting the sample packs together. If you do make another one, a few funk breaks would be appreciated. I spent ages replacing hits of chopped funk breaks with the individual hits from the samples to try and get some sort of roll into the drums. Enjoyed taking part in the comp, hope to be included in any future ones.

hey man! well ive moved but not too far, I'm based in Taunton now but still work in Exeter, where do you live? we should link and make some beats :)

Processing wise I can give u a run down... depending on how detailed you want it, it may require me opening the DAW.
The main jist of it is EQ modulation with distortion though... modulating the freq and Q of a notch to get that almost womp to it (bringing out that mid frequency to punch out) then the usual splitting of freqs and processing the highs differently etc.

Apologies everybody, I haven't been feeling tip top these last few days so didn't get the chance to announce winners.

Winners will be announced in a separate thread very shortly...
