Had a chance to listen through them all a few times now.
1. Evasion & ob:verse : Production values are very high. Sounds really crisp and clear, nice groove and percussion. The Rodigan sample works really well. The standout item is clearly the huge bassline. Love to know a bit about the processing used here. Drums are a little steppy for my tastes but do fit the vibe of the track, the little percussive edits are impressive. Really strong overall. EvezDroppin are you really based out of Exeter? I'm about 5 miles outside the city.
2. Rounder & Option : Really enjoyed working with Option on this and found it very useful to pass ideas back and forth. Hoping to convince Option to do some more collaborations in the future. We did have some issues passing stems back and forth to start with, I ended up upgrading to Ableton Suite to ensure we where on the same DAW and it was much easier just passing the project files through dropbox. We pretty much stuck to the Ableton effects with Option diving into some of the FabFilter stuff to do the final master.
3. Tundra & Polymer : Drums are rolling if a little bit muddy. Overall vibe is very nice but could possibly be improved by slightly altering the main rhythm so the notes don't always hit on beat one, possibly a little turnaround/variation at the end of the 4th/8th bar would help to keep it moving. Good vibes though, certainly has some energy.
4: Manu and K2T : Enjoyed this one. Listen to quite a lot of house music to give my ears a rest from DNB and could certainly hear this in a Kerri Chandler set. Production is really well done, nice minimal repetitive groove.
Thanks again for putting the sample packs together. If you do make another one, a few funk breaks would be appreciated. I spent ages replacing hits of chopped funk breaks with the individual hits from the samples to try and get some sort of roll into the drums. Enjoyed taking part in the comp, hope to be included in any future ones.
