i dunno wats happend to dnb but it aint as good as it was!
if ya listen to the tunes in nightlife 1 an 2 they are so much better than the tunes these days.
dont get me wrong i still like tunes these days but i dont think their as good.
wats evry1 else think???:rolf:

I think there both two completely different styles of music. I actually prefer the new stuff as i dont like some of the older tunes as stand alone tracks as sometimes they can sound a bit monotonous, and some of the producers nowdays and what they can do is amazing, for example break and commix. having said all that, i think theres no better way to mix, than to mix in some of the older tunes in as teases in the andy c style, a mix that comes to mind is ladies night vip n pacman remix. first time i heard that at fabric went mental! So for me I think both add to each other, but just playing tunes on their own, im gonna have to stick to some of the newer tunes.

fair enuff!
but the tunes i mean are like 2004 2005 tunes their the best imo

like the old stuff - like the new stuff
there were tunes back then that wrnt good and same now
matter of opinion but a smasher is a smasher no matter what time frame it comes from

There is so much good stuff coming out at the mo i reckon... Still my fav era is 94-97. Use to go without eating to buy vinyl back then lol. Beans on toast was a luxury :)

There are so many good tunes gonna be hitting this year and some great new producers
(Break, Heist, Hazard etc)
and some of the older ones are coming back
(A sides, Bukem, Roni Size, Die etc)
Gonna be a big year

spose so i no wat ya mean!
i guess i just found older tunes more inerestin probly cos thats wen i was getting in dnb

mah....you young ins these days. the progression will survive. all this stuff you grew to love from back in the day when there was no Liquid no Jumpup etc...
thats the reason you feel the way you do...you have to decide between sub-genres. back then it was just Jungle/Drum & Bass...now people ask what kind :shake:

the problem is... wait for it... there's too much dnb out there. you really have to sort the wheat from the chaff these days. it's become so easy for people to produce and to start thier own label that the market is getting flooded with crap that we just don't need. i know the fact that there are so many raves and little dnb nights means that dj's need such a massive selection to avoid becoming stale, but, alas, it has stopped being about the music and become about always having new music. i put my hands up, i'm as guilty as the next man, i demand new mixes from dj's on myspace all the time, i wanna know when they're gonna release their latest tunes, i wanna buy fresh presses from my favourite producers every week. but it shouldn't be like that. as the classic old cliche goes it's quality not quantity. but that sadly isn't true anymore.

I personally am loving dnb these days! I love the old stuff just as much, but there is so much good shit coming out nowadays, that there isn't even enough time to enjoy it all to the fullest. I download so many mixes that are dope, and i get to play them once or twice only to get a new one the next day. When people say dnb has fell off, i think their nuts but thats just me.

spot on mate
i also agree with you boys about the 2003/4/5 stuff
so many quality tunes from then, and if u wanna go back just listen to DJ Hype's DNB essentials
that album is full of absolute genius

there are still a lot of good producers & tunes now its just that becasue there is so much dnb a DJ is always going to pull out something you dont rate

its all about personal preference and with so much choice its impossible to keep everyone happy

There is tons of great new shit....just gatta wade though all the crap to get to it.
As far as older stuff, 94-97ish jungle and 97-99ish neuro does it for me.

spose so i no wat ya mean!

The 'older' tunes you are referring to came more than a decade after this musical genre appeared... 2003 is musically yesterday for me and some of the older heads here.

This is not meant to be an insult - have you listened to any tracks/mixes from when dnb was called jungle?

When people talk about the 'good old days' and old dnb, they generally mean 1994-1997 (or a bit later if they love tech).

Oh and your question about dnb not being as good as it was has been appearing from about 1994. It has been raised a million times. The music evolves but some opinions and tastes don't.

I'm not being nasty - but realise that in three years somebody is going to come out and you're going to laugh because they're going to refer to 2007 as the good old days.
