This has maybe been posted before and if so I do apologise but seriously. What's everybody's view on this. You pay for a drum n bass rave and a DJ decides to slap on some skrillex or whoever. Is this rave taboo?

Not as bad as a backspin following by some shitty trap...

But yeah, imo you want dubstep, go to a dubstep event, or go to a room specifically for dubstep..

don't really like it, because the energy drops massively when a dj decides to play dubstep. i usually go grab myself something to drink and look around for familiar faces then.

if a DJ does do that, and it's not going off, then they'll switch back to what's working (if they're a good DJ). If it does go off, and they continue playing it...fuck off and go get a drink if you're not feeling it.

saying that, i was a bit pissed off about Noisia's set on friday night, i know it can't be much fun playing through your back catalog every weekend, but practically every noisia set i've listened to seems to be mostly their own tunes and other great neurofunk/techstep. So when i bought a ticket for the last rave i'll be able to go to for a while, with my favourite artists headlining, yeah, i was a little pissed off about the fact their set was for the most part dubstep/trap and a few of their newer DnB bits which i think are a bit wank.

nigggaaaaaaa, i wanted concussion, displaced, backdraft, exodus, sandworm, my world, block control, hideous, lost cause etc.

depends on whose dropping the tunes. personally if I had to choose I'd ban the crap but there are a small of tunes which Noisia play that sound half decent.

I like both so it is no biggie to me. I like artists like Bare and Mark Instinct. I don't like that deep shit. I also like Trap as well.

I saw Technical Itch play a dnb and dubstep set in LA about 5 years ago which was pretty weird. He played moreso the deeper stuff. I would agree with it depends on what DJ it is.

I suppose it depends where you see them. They are obviously experienced DJs and play to the crowd. So if you see them playing at some UKF night or similar then you can expect to hear what the masses like (i.e. shit dubstep, trap, commercial dnb) but if you saw them in a more underground venue, they would play tunes like block control, sandworm, etc.

This is what happens in my experience.

But to test this idea... Where did you see them?

A DJ that plays both dnb and dubstep well together is Dieselboy. Although that can be expected because he owns Subhuman.

Gutted. We got absolutely treated in Brighton the following night! A little of the non-dnb stuff (I personally would have been gutted if there wasn't) but so many classic bangers. Set ended and I literally felt like melting from the sickness then you hear 'ONE MORE TUNE ONE MORE TUNE!' and what does he play.. fucking Masochist remix!
