The whole film is a thinly veiled dig at apartheid..
District 6 was a real township where the black residents were sent and abused by the governing regime.
I know this as two of my colleauges are from SA and were gob smacked at the films blatantness.

    you misunderstand me.
my SA colleauges were amazed at how spot on blomkamp was to highlight the atrocities of the previous regime and get away with it in a major hollywood film.

great script, cast, cinematography, editing VFX and political stance.
    Top film. :not_worth

I thought it was quite well done.

-The was no love interest or useless female characters.
    -No gratuitous sex scene
-The aliens had guns that could make a human explode

I don't want to say too much more about it, but it certainly had a mood & character to it. Not your typical Hollywood blockbuster film. It had a degree of morality, with how the humans interacted with the aliens etc. If you like sci-fi at all, this would be a great film to experience.
