Hey.. I need a hand with how to create DIRT. From scratch pref... not too keen on presets... I have got all the other aspects reasonably down.. the dirty basses that wail and twist.. have just got me fucked.. sounds in the vain of noisia, upbeats.. etc.

can anyone give me a sweet guide in how to make these.. or at least give me the basics in how to do it.. i have blue, albino, massive, fm8, zeta w/ virus patch... in one of these would be preferable :)

I would be forever in your debt. Just can;t find any info on it anywhere!

theres a 32 step tutorial on doa with audio examples, plus the justintodd calyx bass one, check those out.
seriously though man there are no quick fixes, youre just going to have to put in the time.

i can definately appreciate the time involved.. haha. im more than willing to invest it.. have you got a link to the tutorial i cant seem to find it? .... i guess what has me troubled is whether the sounds modulate within the soft synth or it is automation done afterwards.. or both???

But yeah link would be great!...

ok then, ill help out. im refusing to do any work at any rate so i might as well post some links.

there's not one right way to getting those bass sounds, and quite often just fucking around for weeks on different sounds can be quite rewarding
that said though, i know it can be frustrating learning these techniques and having to sift through all the ones that work and all the ones that are bullshit
essentially it comes down to layering and smashing the top layers with as many different mods effects and distortion sounds as you can, resampling and going at it again, fucking with filter automation, pitch envelopes in samplers, different detuning methods, eg. detuning one sound a cent out, then pitch bending and having the pitch bend time slightly different on the second layer, therefore creating extra mod when the pitch bend is implemented.
There's a ton of hard work involved, not to say that it's not enjoyable, but yes, you need to be prepared to spend alot of time on these kinds of sounds, they'll take you years, literally, although don't let that disenchant you!!

all the links etc. have helped a lot.. still a long way off the target sound.. but already the sounds have lifted to another level..... just been effecting... chewing up all the cpu.. multisampling.. then repeating basically...

sampled a shovel scraping against concrete and reversed and effected slightly and it sounds like the devil himself

OI! See my post in "DIRTY BASSLINE EXCHANGE" thread. Ive posted a RAR file with some selected Massive patches of mine....there are some very noisia-esque ball tearers in there..remember..saturation / overdrive is your friend, as well as Phaser, with a relatively high feedback.

and

Imho, the best synths for basslines, are Surge and Massive....Trilogy is also good, as long as you use it as a layer (usually for really clean Subs)

Pm me for some specific tips. I spent FUCKING YEARS trying to emulate noisia... their basses involve a lot of resampling too....thats something to move on to once you've got the right sort of sound as a synth patch initially.

Hope that helps,

Matt

@teehai

just dl ur presets, but whenever i try to open one of it massive crashes?! Which version u use. Would like to see how other approach noisia sounds in massive

Did my self a noisia bass rebuild

U get pretty near to their sounds with massive, then u can bounce it into a sampler and put FM Modulation on it or layer several sligthly detuned instances to get the sound even more harsher and fatter.

There r always several ways to achieve a final sound depending whats ur starting point.
