Definitions... Always difficult. So, check this idea. Thoughts?

Eepz. This idea came up to me when i was reading some theories about dnb producing techniques.

It was full of words like 'sidechaining', 'unison', 'formant fitering',..
Most of it I understand, but i can understand for the most starting producers/dnb fans/dj's it's hard to understand most of these words.

Alot of noobs dunno what 'VIP' means (saw people askin that a milion of times on youtube),
and also lots of people dunno the difference betweet mastering and mixdown (i didn't know either till one week ago to be honest). I thought it meant the same.

SO: maybe we could dedicate this thread to 'difficult words in dnb production, dj'ing,...' Or make a sticky of it...

It's just an idea, so, thoughts?

VIP: Variation in Production. Usually a slightly altered version of the original, not considered a remix, must be done by the original artist.

Sidechaining: setting a compressor to use the level of an input signal (a kick for example) to initiate compression of another sound (bass for example)

Unison: control used to "stack" voices, making sounds richer and fuller

Formant filtering: now it's someone else's turn....

Formant filtering, to my knowledge, is to replicate vowels in human speech. So it does basically the same thing as a "vowel filter", it's like three or more bandpass filters in different array to mimic different vowels. I am not responsible for faulty information. The internet is.

Syncopation

VIP's can be done by other artists also (very rarely) eg. rockwell - underpass (alix perez vip)
 
As far as I'm aware VIP means "very impressive production" it's a chance for a producer to show off their skills and for other people to kick back and say "hey, that's some very impressive production right there, I'm very impressed by the production levels. I can only dream to reach that standard." So basically that's what it means, it's got nothing to do with remixing or input to the track, it's just a chance to say well done for some very impressive producing skills, and I guess that answers the question once and for all.

Okay I guess this will never be sticky because of misinformation by trolls, would have maybe decreased the amount of same noob question threads. Who am I kidding they'll post them anyway, you think they read stickies to find information they are looking for? Pfft.

Truth of the matter is no one really knows what it means. It's just a remix under another disguise, basically.

Although it would be interesting to know when the first time the VIP tag was used.

Dude just gtfo, i'm just trying to be helpful, and as i know, there are alot of things on the internet that are rubbish. With the knowledge and experience of forum members here, there are some walking dnb encyclopedia's around here, they can really help us out!

Why are you so hostile bro?

FYI this forum is on the internet and there is just as much mis/disinformation on here as there is anywhere else.

I don't think you are trying to help out at all. You are trying to encourage other people to help out by asking them to volunteer information while offering nothing helpful yourself.

If you were really trying to help, you would have culminated a list of so called difficult words and asked the users of this site to define them and maybe even add some of them own.

Maybe if you visited that website I mentioned you could beat out all this agression and you would be able to think a bit more logical.
