Amalgam is an artist whom i came across several years ago over at DOA. it is both his debut album and our first artist album so really psyched on that. i consider this body of work to be incredibly mature, unified, and even timeless. i've been listening to some of these for years and they are still as satisfying as ever. i'll leave it up to you to decide! 100% of the profits of this release are going to https://researchautism.org

thanks to everyone supporting this music in your mixes and headphones.

Quick little interview with the artist...

How did you get into DNB and producing it?

A friend from high school was going to a lot of jungle shows in Dallas, Tx around 96-97 and would bring home tape packs of various DJs. He was really in to the jump up sound of the time and I was already listening to a lot of east coast hip-hop and got into sample culture so was listening to a lot of jazz and funk (didn't really have the means or access to gear to produce at the time) so I was recognizing a lot of the samples, but the beats were a bit off putting to me at first. Then I heard the sounds of LTJ Bukem and GLR etc and it just made sense. It was just beautiful and I'd simultaneously heard nothing like it but also felt it was quite familiar as well.

How did these tracks come together?

Well first of all some of them are as much as 3 years old and some are from this year. Admittedly, I was a bit hesitant to put some of the older tunes on the LP, but ultimately I thought they still conveyed the vibe I wanted to get across and included them even though the production may be a little rougher. I've always enjoyed

What does your studio situation look like?

-Ableton Suite 10
-More plugins than I need
-Maschine MKIII which would make an excellent paper weight if I weren't using it for an audio interface! (Nothing on Maschine, just didn't suit me, although the sounds are nice)
-2018 Intel MacMini i7 maxed out
-Pair of JBL 305s (not ideal but my room sucks anyway)
-AudioTechnica ATH-M70x (get used most of the time due to not being able to use monitors regularly)

What's your approach to breakbeats?

I used to work in MIDI but now I'm audio all the way. It's much faster for me and that is ultimately most important to quickly get a vibe going.

Any words for aspiring jungle producers?

Listen to other music besides jungle. Just keep finishing tunes! You can always come back but, in my opinion, you want to capture the vibe you're trying to create as quickly as possible. That has been the best and fastest way for me to improve.

Why choose to give the proceeds to autism research on this one?

This is close to my heart as I have two children with autism and I've found this one tends to allocate more of the proceeds toward the actual cause, so I appreciate that.

Good vibes. Great sound. Passionately crafted. Luv it.

The man can be proud. Especially the first answer to the second question. You can really hear, that he listens to other music besides jungle. Must buy.
