Rhyme and Reason Live will showcase their first event of the year titled ‘Hip-Hop for Unity’; headlined by hip-hop legends Dead Prez, with top UK support from Sway, Akala and Skinnyman, with music supplied by DJ 279.

Dead Prez: Continuing on the path of politically minded artists like KRS-One, Brand Nubian and Public Enemy, the Atlanta based duo of M1 and Stic Man have been producing Revolutionary But Gangsta hip-hop for over a decade. They have consistently produced music which enlightens and expresses concepts which are beyond the limited confines of the rap aesthetic. Expect to hear the classic joints, material off there latest mixtape ‘Revolutionary But Gangsta Grillz’ and exclusive joints from there forthcoming album ‘Information Age’. The mixtape features original tracks and remakes of popular tunes; including ‘Drake - Over’ and ‘Jay Electronica - Exhibit C’. You can download the mixtape from there website:

Sway: Bursting on the scene with a unique style of story telling likened to Slick Rick. Sway has demonstrated the D.I.Y approach can still work, as his efforts and self-promoted mixtapes led to him being signed to Akon's Label Konvict Music in 2007. Early in the year he released ‘The Delivery Mixtape’ which features Giggs, Mr Hudson and Styles P, oh and it’s free!

Akala: As well as being the founder of the ‘Hip Hop Shakespeare Company' (THSC), Akala is one of the leaders of a British artistic renaissance. His intelligent thought provoking lyrics and love of all genres can be heard all through out his releases. With his latest offering ‘Double Think’ he uses gritty electronic rock influenced music to deliver his social commentary.

Skinnyman: Whether he talks in first or third person, you never doubt the voice, full of life experiences and the wisdom that can come from it. He does what a good investigative journalist is supposed to do; writing objectively about personal experience and that is what his audience look up to. Inspired by a new energy Skinnyman will be releasing new material and guess who will be hearing exclusives. His performance will be combining theatre and spoken word.
