TYPECELL – “ANIMATION” / “RESURRECTION” – DARKLAND RECORDINGS 029
You can’t hate on simple things that work: Typecell makes sure you realize that you don’t always need the biggest sound to create a funky platter. “Animation” starts out with an innocent noodle of a loop, and quickly delves into a subwoofer-hugging bassline, sure to keep you entranced for the length of the track. There’s no need for tracks that have more bells and whistles than actual feeling, and “Animation” is proof positive of that fact. “Resurrection”, on the other hand, seems to tell a story. The intro is like the break of day – very faint keys summoning the sunrise outside of a tomb. In comes some effects and a solid drumbeat, laced with a subtle conga to give it a funky edge to it. This is then met with a fat, rolling bassline, which is the lifeblood coursing through the veins of a genre that seems stuck in the future without slowing down and taking a look back at it’s past. Good to see Typecell creating interesting sounds for the masses. Scoop these 2 up QUICK!
