Dark drum and bass rimshoty style snares.

Been trying to get this kinda dark minimal sound and i have been thinking about the snares. I havent really got many of those style tunes in my itunes but when i loaded up obsessions by Enei and had a look at where the snare hits it seems to be hitting about 1000hz upwards as the main attack of it. Am i right in thinking this is how a lot of those rimshot style snare are in these style of tunes?

This tune. Whenever i try adding in low snares to the drum beat i feel like it ruins the snare.

get the icicle sample pack...most of his snares arent around 200. all about what sounds right
