-= KASRA =–

“Kasra is a gatekeeper to what is under the surface in drum & bass. He does what he does with passion and care. He is a kindred spirit.” Goldie, Metalheadz
Since his first forays into drum & bass in the late 1990’s as a burgeoning young DJ, there’s no doubt that Kasra has now made an indelible mark on the scene, a mark that continues to grow ever-stronger as his Critical Music empire prospers.
Conceived back in 2002 in a front room in north London, the label has grown from a simple idea driven by a commitment to putting out the best music the scene has to offer; it has now become one of the most well respected underground dance music labels in the UK. Nurturing new talent and releasing some of the freshest breaks and beats from the likes of Break, Rockwell, Breakage, Cyantific, Marcus Intalex, S.P.Y, Calibre, Total Science and many more, it has gone on to build a loyal following around the world driven on by Kasra’s never ending quest to release quality underground bass music.

As Critical’s figurehead the demand for Kasra’s DJ’ing skills has escalated to the point of a schedule that sees him playing regularly every weekend throughout the UK and rest of the
world. Vienna, Budapest, Shanghai, Beijing, Miami, Berlin and of course his beloved London are just a few of the places that have beared witness to the Critical sound and the list just keeps getting longer. Quite a feat these days for someone who’s not yet really gone in deep into the production process.
This is all changing though as Kasra’s been busying himself back in the studio readying his own takes on the Critical sound. 2011 saw a collaboration with S.P.Y. and also Jubei on the heavily rotated Sequence One EP. With many more collabs to come and some solo cuts, expect to see many more Kasra productions gradually working their way into the sets of the great and the good of the D&B community.
Not content with a release schedule bursting with future classics and his own rigorous DJ’ing schedule continually on the up, the label now boasts its own residency at one of the worlds most iconic electronic music venues, Fabric London, where it can regularly be seen smashing up the place with an always superstar cast of DJing elite from D&B and beyond. The first quarter of 2012 saw Kasra achieve what only a select few people around the world have managed in their careers; joining the ranks of such DNB luminaries as Andy C, High Contrast, Goldie and Noisia by being asked to mix the new Fabric Live album.A huge honour which resulted in Fabric Live 62 being one of the most successful drum & bass mix albums of the day. “The rave George Cross, one of dance music’s highest honours.” DJ Mag
So now as heads turn and eyes look forward to the rest of 2012 it seems this is the tipping point for Kasra both as a DJ and a label head of one of the most inspiring imprints in dance music today. The Critical age is only just beginning.

Hailing from North London, 30 year old DJ turned Producer Gove Kidao aka Sabre has risen through the ranks of the global electronic music fraternity since his emergence back in 2002; Securing as he goes a reputation as a twisted yet soulful thinker, bringing a grittier sound to the deeper spectrum of Drum & Bass and experimental electronica.
After having spent his earliest years in the Seychelles, Sabre moved to the UK in 1989. Awed by the richness of the early 90’s UK Music scene; he initially starting off as Hip-Hop DJ, switching focus in 1995 over to the exciting homegrown movement that was Jungle Drum & Bass.

With the most modest of setups, by the end of the decade the inevitable experimentation in production had begun. Now enjoying residencies on the underground DJ circuit and London based pirate radio station Rude FM; Sabre began to enjoy the beginnings of artistic success as part of MC GQ’s Emcee Recordings label.

In the years since those first forays into the scene, Sabre has grown to emerge as a global DJ with residencies across Europe including Londons’ legendary Ministry of Sound, and currently at the Fabric Nightclub. He has become an key member of a new generation of Drum and Bass producers set on evolving the scope of the genre, in the process collaborating with artists such as Noisia, Goldie, Alix Perez, Jenna G, Breakage, Icicle, Sam Frank, Rockwell & Ulterior Motive – but to name a few.

With a decades worth of releases and remixes under his belt, tracks such as “Solitary Native” on DJ Frictions’ Shogun imprint, plus “Everglade” & “God Fearing” for Goldies’ Metalheadz label - Sabre has insured his position at the heart of the global Drum and Bass movement. A position that was reaffirmed in 2010 with the release of his debut LP “A Wandering Journal“ on the widely respected & pioneering bass music outfit, Critical Recordings – now the regular home of much of Sabres’ production.

Spanning many styles, this initially dancefloor-orientated catalog has evolved to include a more experimental outlook, showcased in his 2010 debut LP, but perhaps best represented in his work for Capitol films contributing towards the score for the feature film “Black water Transit” – Directed by Tony Kaye of “American History X” fame.
Currently resident in Thailands’ bustling capital Bangkok, Sabre continues to produce from his base in this Asian mega-metropolis, building his portfolio of releases for Critical records whilst returning to Europe throughout the year to tour his residencies.
