I was thinking about this, and there's some really nice cover versions performed in completely different styles and or / unexpected instruments (but not just a rmx or mash up with a bit of bass added ala Audio Bullies). Different instruments and arrangements!

Not especially novelty ones, tho some of the lounge covers can be nice...

I think done well, they make you appreciate both the original song, and what the cover artist brings...

    Some that spring to mind

Gerald's Voodoo Ray played by a brass band...

Walk On By (was it Dionne Warwick?) done by The Stranglers!

My Way (Frankie Sinatra) by the Sex Pistols.

Walk This Way (Run DMC & Aerosmith) in a country & western blue grass plucked guitar style... Dunno who did the cover but it's ace!

Johnny Cash has done loadsa ace ones. One his American Recordings 3 & 4 there's loads, my faves include One (by U2), & I hate U2 but it's a really good song when sung by Johnny.

& Personal Jesus (Depeche Mode innit?) by Johnny Cash! Strong stuff!

But not the Tears For Fears Mad World one off Donnie Darko, cos all that fella did was slow it down and mope a bit. Nice song still, but he didn't bring much new to it...

    What ya thinking?

    What're ya faves?

Dread Zeppelin are pretty good, and so are the Easy-Star All-Stars (dub side of the moon - excellent album).

Yeah. I heard about this too. I've seen a few reviews. It's supposed to be excellent...

Also Willie Nelson did a whiteman stoner reggae album of covers. Which is supposed to be shite...
