Lionbeat, Congo Natty and Kmag present Power of the TRINITY – New Years Eve Carnival! @ JAMM, 261 Brixton Road, Brixton, London, SW9 6LH 31 December, 21:00 – 06:00, £15 Adv./£20 OTD This December, a New Year’s Eve Carnival from the crew… Power of the Trinity from Congo Natty and Lionbeat is a primary exponent of sound system music and culture in the Capital. Carefully selected bills and access to the scene’s major players have seen the night go from strength to strength in 2008. To celebrate a successful launch this year, Trinity has teamed up with Kmag to usher in a massive 2009, with a New Years Eve Carnival celebration. We’ve kept the quality high, but the cost of the ticket low. Teaming up established veterans with the best quality of young, up and coming stars of the scene has been a trademark of the crew’s offerings. The New Years Eve Carnival party will be no exception… check the full and exclusive line up: CONGO NATTY aka REBEL MC with the CONGO NATTY BAND featuring TOP CAT & TENOR FLY KING TUBBY’S CARNIVAL HIFI SOUND SYSTEM featuring selectors SCRAPPA & BUCKY THE SPEAKER’S CORNER QUARTET JOE ARIWA & KARMELODY MURDERATION featuring DAVID BOOMAH & CODEBREAKER CRAIG BLUNDELL – THE DRUMMER DJ KMAG RESIDENTS: DR KHAN, TURMOIL & LEKS B2B KEITH LAWRENCE END OF THE WEAK: DJ SNUFF, MANAGE & KINGPIN LIONBEAT DJs: SAM SEED & ARJUNERATION Hosted by PROFIT Trinity Music Productions herald the launch of the new album from the original Junglist, Congo Natty, in 2009, as the Rebel headlines with elements of his live band, providing a preview of the works to come. Rebel will also perform a DJ set on the night with back up from his men at arms: Sound System veterans Top Cat and Tenor Fly. The legendary King Tubby’s Carnival HiFi has been a stalwart of Notting Hill Carnival and the Brixton community for the last 38 years, and they’ve agreed to ship in their massive Carnival Sound System for the reggae room! This means that their Reggae, Dancehall and Soul party mix will sound as sweet as it does on those sunny August carnival days, with top selectors Scrappa and Bucky at the helm. Also appearing are The Speaker’s Corner Quartet and their hip hop jazz that’s blessed Glastonbury, MTV Base, BBC 1Xtra, the Queen Elizabeth Hall as well as supporting Blak Twang, DJ Vadim and Herbie Hancock. This Carnival party will also star Joe Ariwa, the Mad Professor’s apprentice, who is quickly becoming recognised as a tremendous technician in the studio, and who mixes deep dub-wise tracks with dance beats live on stage; just like his Mad Mentor. Also featuring on the night, Rebel’s drummer, Craig Blundell demonstrates the technical dexterity that has made him Roland’s international demo drummer. He’ll be literally banging out a DJ set using sample pads linked to his analogue drum kit; whilst drumming over the top. This has to be seen and felt to be believed… Serious! Augmenting the Carnival vibes on the night, our support artists are no strangers to stage show and sound system vibrations: Murderation, the Brixton D&B crew featuring the veteran David Boomah, with 5 Jungle number 1s to his credit, along with Codebreaker and DJ Majestic. DJ and Producer Keith Lawrence maintains the Brixton connection, phat reggae, hip hop and soul beats. Kmag residents Dr Khan, Leks and Turmoil feature for the Drum & Bass and Dubstep pressure, whilst End of the Weak residents Snuff, Kingpin and Manage bring the banging hip hop. Lionbeat residents Sam Seed and Arjuneration blend the hip hop , soul and funk, whilst Profit plays host for the evening.
