Turbine Music welcome a talented duo from Zaragoza in Spain, Clima love all things dub with a sprinkling of reggae infused drum & bass with half step drums and a tribal, natural finish.
Kicking off with the title track When it rains it Pours which opens up with a downpour of the wet stuff, alongside chords stabbing their way through the atmospherics. The low end presents itself alongside the halfstep kick and shimmering percussion. Little space fx’s beep into the breakdown whilie the stabbing chord retains the pressure. Well thought out arrangement without been too tricky, one for the nodding crew.
None of Dem is what the Clima sound is all about, deep soundscapes with all the characteristics of an epic sci fi movie, before dropping into some ruff and tuff bass pressure with mid range spiking stabs sitting on top. Then the reggae vocal enters proceedings and really hooks you into something that wasn’t expected. Well used from this dub and reggae loving duo. A tune that will stick in your head all week, play this, stick your hood up and get down.
Earth Dub is 21st century Dub, if you like it in and around the 170 blueprint then this is for you.
Roland Space Echo’s straight out of a all the the best reggae dubs of yesteryear, Heavy hitting bottom end bass that dominates the mhz frequencies and triggers on the kick hurts everytime. Cheeky vocal reference samples makes you think, where did they find that sample!
This tune could of been played on all the soundsytems of the 70’s and early 80’s and not felt out of place. Saxon, Coxone, Jah Shaka etc would of loved this on their cone busters.
Burden finishes this EP in style, straight up banger, no hanging around from Clima.
Perussion alongside the sinister vibes welcomes you with a devil smile, and then the big drop of bass and thumping kicks hit low, before a psychotic stab develops into some high end modulation on the breakdown, but this doesn’t hang around, it gives the listener seconds of a leg break before snapping back in to some freaked out body movements. A wicked finish to the EP from Clima.
Watch out for them in the future with releases scheduled on Turbine Music.
