My computer's playing up a bit...

When I search on Google (using IE) and then click on a result it either works fine or opens up a search for the same terms, using any random search engine or opens a porn portal.

If I open Mozilla it opens either a porn portal or dodgy looking search engine before I even do anything...

Is this spyware? How do I get rid? Cheap or free is preferred...

I've got an upto date Anti-virus which doesn't detect owt, but I don't think it has spyware detection (cos they want me to pay for that and the Anti-virus was free)...

    (yn)

Dont think that anything you get will always stop spyware. I used to use spybot - Search and destroy. Used to use it 1nce a week to get rid of crap.
Nowadays i just use norton 007(cracked) and a few other things.
I thik microsft have the best spyware software dont they. :carlton:

    Cheerz!

Got that dl'ed & running now...

Nice EZ DL & install too!

Part of my problem was that I couldn't search using any search engine without it redirecting me to some spammy ad search engine etc...

    :)

Don't ever get Windows One Care XP!!! Its designed to conflict with any 3rd party security you may have installed to compliment it. I feel so ripped off.... The thing cost frikken 50.00! Well I didn't pay for it personally but I still feel ripped off.

I really need to get the PAY version of Ad-Aware. That is the very best anti malware program one can get IMOP. The share ware version isn't very good because it doesn't kill the spyware as soon as it gets into your PC. You have to run it manually all the time which sucks because by the time you get rid of the spy/malware the stuff has already done its damage to you.

    I've been running SpyBot.

My computer seems to be fine now, and surfing's back to full speed.

You don't realise just how many ad cookies and shit gets in, even if it ain't harmful...

Just from Myspace & general surfing, it's like 10+ per session!

I use adaware and another program called a-squared which deals with trojans and malware that adaware doesn't seem to pick up.

The best way to get your PC totally clean is to use a few programs.

Adaware and Spybot between them get most of the shit.
Get Firefox instead of Internet Explorer.
AVG free is a decent free anti-virus if you ever need one.

And Linux... well, that's pretty hardcore, I think you've gotta be pretty geeky to get into that shit and then you'll have issues with most of your favourite programs not running. But you are considerably safer from viruses and malware.

Spysweeper is the best on the market... its not free though.. Between that and Ad-aware you should be able to get most of junk out.. apparently spysweeper just changed the activation on the product so its a bit harder to crack... But its worth buying.

I put spybot on, & now adaware, which found stuff spybot hadn't, so maybe I can take that off now?

    Got AVG too.

Good going. I'd imagine you're safe without Spybot. Ad-aware has always caught anything dodgy for me (y)
