Buying a new mixer

Hello everyone,

I currently have a 2-chanel Gemini PS121X and would like to upgrade to a 3-channel mixer.

I would like to get the PS626X (http://www.decks.co.uk/products/gemini/ps626x), but my mate says that if i wanna upgrade my set-up it would be better to buy a better mixer. He says this one is 'too' cheap, but I've been looking around and there aren't really any mixers I would rather have. I like how it looks, I like how it feels and I'm used to it. This would be like turning my current 2-channel into a 3-channel mixer. I don't see myself using any types of effects that come with more expensive mixers.. or should I?

What changes from a mixer from this range and the ones from the above ranges? Should I really invest in something more expensive? I am very cool with this one, but just wanted to be sure.

do you really need another channel ? its not necessarily an upgrade going from a 2 channel to a 3 channel. i dont know that much about mixers but i think if you wana upgrade, how about something with a better sound quality like an xone 22, may have to go second hand though.
 
Vestax although I cant find anywhere that stocks the Vestax PMC.... whatever it was called but that was a quality 3 channel mixer
 
Yeah but why should I invest in a 'better' mixer? Is it just the sound quality? What changes from an £80 to a £150 one? Do good DnB DJ's use mixer effects?
 
I'm now in the same boat and could really do with some quality dnbforum input lol! Is there a real difference between spending £250 or £500 on a mixer in terms of sound quality and longevity (all I'm interested in really)?

Basically would it be better to spend big bucks on the Rane from Spain...

I'm assuming the difference in price is linked to more than just branding but as I know sweet fuck all about electronics I have no way of telling. I do know mixers lose their shine soundwise after a while so if there really is little difference between them I'd be tempted to buy the cheaper one and replace it in two years for the same amount of money as buying one Ecler.

Any ideas guys?

All i can say man is i'm currently using an A&H Xone 42 (around £500) and my previous mixers were the Numark DXM09 and the Vestax VMC something (which are both around £250, if not less) .. and on the build quality, it kinda goes both ways as my Numark was purchased 2nd hand and i was using it solidly for around 2 and a half years and by the end of its abuse taken from me learning to mix, it was all good. On the other hand, the Vestax was awful.. The reason i brought it was because i heard they were known for good quality, long lasting mixers.. But within a year the EQ's went shoddy on mine, and 2 of the 3 channel faders stopped working smoothly, and i'm not the most aggresive DJ, so i wouldn't recommend Vestax personally. But the Allen & Heath i've had for about a year now, no problems what so ever. Feels like a fucking brick and still feels good as new to this day. And also when it comes to sound quality, the Xone is leagues ahead of the Numark, with the Vestax a little better. So i don't really know about the price difference being relevant for build quality as i've had 2 completely different experiences, but i'd say it deffinately plays a part when it comes to sound quality.
