    Right people,
I just passed my driving test and now I wanna get a car ASAP. The thing is, I know NOTHING about cars...

I have about 2 bags to spend, want to get something fairly decent looking and isn't going to bankrupt me to insure. Can anybody make any suggestions?

hyper_d said a Pergeot 306, sounds good, anybody else?

I got a mint 1999 polo for 650 a few weeks ago. Insurance isnt the only financial burden when buying a car though. You need something reliable and fairly easy to work on to keep your costs low. I suggest shopping around for a while so you get a good deal. Make sure you check the car over thoroughly on a test drive too.

I'd go with this, but even this might be a bit too much to insure.

Might be wise to bite the bullet and get a £200 106 diesel shitter to run around in for your first year and save your bags for your next car.

theres no question for me. you buy a golf ...
    a. because they're good.
    b. because they're always in demand so don't loose value as quick
    and
    c. because they're good.

i have a polo... and although it's gay, it's definatly better than most hatches in your price bracket!

You forgot about d) because they're slow, handle like sloppy turd and expensive to repair.
