so, while i'm off in arabia stacking that paper, admittedly quite small stacks of paper considering the hours i'll be working, i intend to start saving so me and matey can build a system and start putting on parties.

problem is, i have no idea where to start looking, what brands of PA speakers are the best/most reliable, how many subs we'll need, do we need seperate speakers for mids and highs, how do we go about powering such a system, etc etc.

we're not fucking loaded so we won't be able to go straight out and buy us a couple funktion stacks, but we will be looking to start small and build it bigger over time.

anyone care to shed some light on how to go about this?

well karl, loud is most certainly the plan, it's just the quality and level of loud we can achieve and how to achieve such.

    no offence

but this is gonna be a lot more complicated than you probably think it is

the cheapest way of getting speakers is buying the drivers and building the boxes yourself

but then you have the power amps

like £1000+ for a proper one (and youre gonna need several), and with djhepz, terpit going on about how hard it is to get audio equipment in wherever youre going....

    good luck saving!

lol, i'm not buying it out there, just saving what i can while i'm out there.

i'm up for a challenge, and up for spending a decent amount on it. If we do it right, we can make back the money spent in good time.

Mate, talking about getting a "rig" is pointless.

You're honestly better off going out and buying yourselves a set of Rokit 8s, and a KRK sub. That's all you're ever going to need for a house party, even a big one. I'd only suggest something like the KRKs because a) they sound great even though they are flat-ish and b) they are Active so you wont need to buy an amp.

For my house parties I use my Rokit 6s and just chuck the sub from my TVs surround system under the table so the 8s should be more than enough.

I'm being so seriously when I say that you can't just buy a load of speakers and expect to plug them in and have everything work. Sound engineering is an art form and live mixing is totally different to producing.

    1. Buy 2x Rokit 8s + Sub + 2 more monitors for referencing if you're DJing.
