A new single by Dr. Dre and featuring Jay-Z will be released "in the next two weeks".
Called 'Under Pressure', the track is the first issued from the long-awaited album 'Detox', which the rapper/producer has also revealed will be coming out later this year,
On the heels of the release of Distant Relatives, rapper Nas spoke with the Wall Street Journal in regards to his work with Damian Marley, his thoughts on reggae music and rap, and more.
“They're both real music by people who are expressing themselves about the conditions around them,” said Nas when asked about the similarities between Jamaican music and rap. “Many of those conditions are similar. Jamaican music can be aggressive, soulful, smooth and exciting all at once—just like hip-hop. At the same time, there's nothing like Jamaica in the United States. Jamaica is its own thing.”
Nas also explained that he’s inspired by Bob Marley’s “untouchable” status and that he would someday hope to have that kind of effect on fans.
“Everyone listens to him—it's not a Jamaican thing or an American thing—it's all over the world,” Nas explained. “I've always wished to be able to do that once, as much as he does it naturally and easily on this untouchable level, I'd want to do that.”
In his interview with the Wall Street Journal Nas also spoke on fellow rappers Lil Wayne and Jay-Z.
Nas revealed that he was able to get Lil Wayne on the Distant Relatives album by sending Wayne a track shortly before he began his prison sentence. As far as Jay-Z, Nas gave praise to his New York City anthem “Empire State Of Mind.”
“It's just keeping that whole thing alive—this New York thing,” said Nas. “There are a lot of people complaining about New York hip-hop, about it not being what it was, and he stood up and now we have another anthem to be proud of.”
Nas and Damian Marley’s Distant Relatives was released on Tuesday, May 18
Def Jam released the tracklist for The Roots long delayed album How I Got Over which is now set to drop June 22nd. Interesting notes from the tracklisting — there’s only 9 songs and both Phonte & Blu appear on two tracks. The cover artwork (above) recently hit the net as well.

2) Dear God 2.0 (Jim James, MOF)
3) Radio Daze (Blu, Porn, Dice Raw, Mercedes Martinez)
4) Now Or Never (Phonte Coleman, Dice Raw)
5 )How I Got Over (Dice Raw)
6) The Day (Blu, Phonte Coleman, Patty Crash)
7) Right On (Joanna Newsom, Sugar Tongue Slim)
8 Doin It Again (John Legend)
9) The Fire (John Legend, Rick Friedrich)"
June 22
While the 6/22 release date for How I Got Over was something we had heard a while back, The Roots' were still working on the album as early as last week when the label pushed the button on making this date firm. Now the label and the band are all-systems-go on putting the final touches on the record and getting the word out that its on the way soon. Def Jam posted a tracklist this morning on their site but it was missing a few details. Here is what we have and even this not complete as the group just finished the interludes last night.
1. Walk Alone (Truck North, Porn, Dice Raw, Mercedes Martinez)
2. Dear God 2.0 (Jim James, Monsters of Folk)
3. Radio Daze (Blu, Porn, Dice Raw, Mercedes Martinez)
4. Now Or Never (Phonte Coleman, Dice Raw)
5. How I Got Over (Dice Raw)
6. The Day (Blu, Phonte Coleman, Patty Crash)
7. Right On (Joanna Newsom, Sugar Tongue Slim)
8. Doin It Again (John Legend)
9. The Fire (John Legend, Rick Friedrich)
10. Web 20/20 (Truck North, Peedi Crakk)
11. Bonus Cut
Sites out there posting the track listing are missing track 10. We dont have the name for the bonus cut but it was produced by ?uesto and again features STS, among others. ?uesto samples Major Lazer on the track. There are supposedly three or four interludes which will have their own titles. The singles are "Dear God," "The Fire," and "Doin It Again." "The Fire" is the song the group made for their performance at the 2010 Winter Olympics in Vancouver. There is a listening session tonight here in NYC so the sites and blogs will be buzzing with info in no time.
Last year, Raekwon roared back into relevance with Only Built 4 Cuban Linx... Pt. II, an instant-classic piece of tangled, bloody-minded throwback rap and the best long-player in years from the extended Wu-Tang Clan family.
g bong
And it looks like Rae's Wu-Tang comrade GZA may be attempting a similar trick right now, crafting a sequel to his eternally ice-cold 1995 masterwork Liquid Swords.
Wu-Tang figurehead RZA posted the news on his Twitter yesterday, also claiming that he'd produce the album:
"IT'S TRUE: "LIQUID SWORDS 2" PRODUCED BY THE ABBOT RZA COMING FALL 2010. WHO'S READY FOR THE WU? BONG BONG".
GZA's rep confirms that he's working on the album.
