    Man!

Booty/Ghettotech is one of my fave genres, yet hardly anyone seems to have even heard of it...

I don't know why but booty & ghetto tech don't seem to have taken off, despite when the tracks get played in most clubs the dancefloor goes mental, and they've influenced tons of other genres...(not least Eminem's recent stuff and J.Timberlake's rude electro pop)

I came across this fella's music today, and if you ain't heard of ghettotech I suggest you check it, like now...

    check out myspace.com/freezedabootyhunter

3 wicked sets to D/L, and an 8min megamix...

    :gpeace: :monkey:

    Give it a listen...

    I used to play it.

Ghettotech.de used to be an excellent ghettotech site/forum.

Imagine a forum where every dnb release gets discussed, almost every leading dj & producer actively participates) and you can find new mixes by leading djs every week. The community there was fantastic.

    Sadly its RIP.

Check out booty.be though, some of the old crew are there.

As to why the music hasn't taken off... well, its extremely demanding to play and most djs can't cope with the scratching and mixing required.

    Mixes

    I.e. Dj Nasty mix

I.e. A better mix by Dj Nessbeth

Nasty is a major producer but he's no Andy C.

Its fast electronic sampled music with simplistic beats, pounding bass and a lot in common with Miami Bass & Booty House (can be played together), mostly produced and played in Detroit. Very sexual in lyrical content.

    Nice one Dustek!

I saw Nessbeth ( & Mr Ries) playing last week, both excellent. Ries a proper turntablist & Nessbeth a very technical DJ.

I got into Booty a few years ago, and soon heard Cutlass Supreme, who is the UK's leading booty DJ. He got into it from DnB when he got fed up of tech step and dark ages DnB.

I'd also add that many Eurorean countries have underground Booty scenes with producers and events (France, Holland & Belgium to name 3).

And Baltimore has used the booty sound as a major part of it's B-More scene (leading proponents Spank Rock & Aaron La Crate).

    :hotpants: :inlove:

Detroit techno + house (Dance Mania records) + funk + hiphop + 80s electro. It is a simplistic style but has multiple influences.

Baltimore & Miami share a lot with it.

As an example of parallel development, favala funk (aka brasil funk, funk de brasil, rio funk) as played by Dj Marlboro is very similar. Disco D, one of the major GT producers nowadays plays a lot of favalu funk.

If anybody is interested, the main ghettotech publisher, Twilight/Databass is offering ALL their back catalogue for $199 on mp3 cd. ALL. That pretty much means all the important gt tracks.

Its not new, has roots going back to 1992. Its probably old, pretty insular and pretty much dead.

I'm truly rackin my brain to figure out a way to do a booty event without it costing me a packet...

& O's into the idea too...

Trouble is, so few people know what it is / have heard of it...

I went to a night in London recently with a room hosted by 4Player records, including Nessbeth & Mr Ries, no more than 30 people in the room at the most...But they do manage to fill out nights in Belgium, so there's hope.

    ;)
