    Need some inspiration.

If you had up to £6k to spend on a used motor.. Which makes and models would be high on your list?

Need something fairly economical which looks good and will last a few years

I know you want used, but I'd put it towards a finance car. Nothing quite like having a brand new motor. Most come with lifetime warranty now (covered up to 100,000 miles)

MK1 GTD. Fucking hard to get but a beauty of a motor.

Or an old Scirocco. Definitely don't need 6k for that, I'm hoping to be getting one soon for much nearer the 600 mark

Basically old vw = massive win

tap in what your looking for, use as much detail as you can. engine size, doors, fuel economy etc etc
but here is the trick... leave the make & model blank.
you'll find all the cars that suit your needs and have an unbiased opinion of which ones will suit your needs.

that's how i ended up with a golf gt. a petrol friendly 1.4 but still quickish thanks to a turbo and supercharger. a happy medium.

Like mentioned by Smarty I'd look into finance providing you have a nice amount to put down a deposit as repayments would be hardly anything over 3 years. Warranty, no MOT for 3 years & best of all ...... that new car smell.

Don't get a car on finance, the value goes down a shed load after first year, waste of money.

I'd like another 306 gti6 nippy little fuckers, great fun!!

    not a bad deal mate.
vw's are built. i paid a few more for mine but it had less miles and its a newer.
i wouldn't be overly put off with 80k on the clock. it will go on for many more.
no need to replace cam belts in them either, its got a chain that will last longer than the engine. or so im told anyway.
lovely car, got everything you need, little bit on the boring side imo but then i had a faster car previously.
sure you can get a newer similar car that money but vw's are quality and will hold value better than say a seat leon.
A3's are a good bet too but you cant get a mid range speed/eco model like the gt. thats what found anyway.

Stay away from French cars. Absolute dog shite!

German or Japanese cars are built to last. You can't go wrong with any make from either country.

I brought a Polo recently for £8k, it's 2010 reg with 23k miles on it and a 1.4l engine. I would recommend them, probably not the most exciting car in the world but it's a nice drive and good on fuel.

All about a Polo or Golf mayng.

You get loads for your money, and can squeeze 200-250k miles out of them no problem.

Could easily pick up a decent mk5 for that.

I got an Audi A4 quattro 180bhp for an absolute steal. - Solid, reliable, fast and comfy, plenty of room for people in the back too!
why spend 6k when you can get a scorcher for around the 1k mark?
