it has come to my attenTion that different kinds of dnb beats have names!
does anyone know where i can find out about the different kinds of beats and just generally learn about it

:afro: hmm, i accidently got my hair cut into an afro today =/

hmmm do you mean breaks?

breaks are drum grooves sampled from old records and sped up / processed for dnb.... the most common is the "Amen" break, which is sampled from a tune called "Amen Brother" by The Winstons (1969), other popular ones are the "Think" break from Lyn Collins "Think About It" (1970's i believe), the "Hotpants" break, the "funky drummer" etc etc.

you can listen to some of the more popular breaks on this website, along with an example of which dnb tune they have been used in :: http://www.junglebreaks.btinternet.co.uk/index2.html
