How the fuck do you make it?

I've been making some house track recently and the echo left over from some of the pads ive made makes a REALLY nice sound bed but im not entirely sure how to sustain it...

I have a pad that sounds really good, ive added distortion and a delay and when the pad stops playing the left over ambience is really nice and full but not intrusive...

how do i keep this ambience up without looping a recorded delay effect?

What's the problem with looping? If it's just because of the unnatural volume jumps at the end/beginning of the loop, you could try reversing the clip and crossfading those together to eliminate that issue.

Actually reading that back I had an idea. I was meaning place the reversed clip after the original, but depending on the sound you could try putting it on top of the original if it's not too busy. That might keep the volume pretty constant.

Not sure if I understood the question properly but anyway.

Yeah that's pretty much it! I tried that earlier but it just didnt seem to be working very well.

I'll have another crack at it later!
 
try time stretching or looping the original tail end of the pads u were talking about, might be able to get it sustained that way
 
If when you loop it over and over it sounds glitchy and not smooth.. try fading it out on the end and fade in at the start of the looped over sound. have a play around with the volume automation and it might sound smoother.
 
SOLUTION A
1. Get a long segment of a pretty good sustained level in an atmos loop. (you want it to be roughly the same colour/timbre throughout)
2. Cut the loop at the zero crossing points on the start and the end.
3. ???????
4.PROFIT

ALTERNATE SOLUTION B - the preffered route
1. record your own atmos character with a roland edirol ;) - just record out in the street, or go to the beach, field, park, bus, train, shopping center, strip club etc.
2. layer the sound with a pad/analogue string/orchestral sounds/synth with lots of movement.
3.?
4.Exponentially Higher Profit Margins Than Solution A.

Best tips today, I'll prefer to make them myself too.

I'll take a nice pad with a good low-end on it, maybe something from the NI Absynth VSTi, use that ase a base to start with.
Then layer it up with highpassed strings, other atmospheric sounds and then start working with all kinds of effects.
Automate the shit out of it 'cause you want it to be dynamic.

I've been thinking about getting a wav recorder for long, but I've never got around to forking out for it. Planning to move back to NZ soon so I might get one before I go, record me plenty of beach and bush and farmyard action. Shit, sounds like a porn already.
