Anyone tried out KRK VX series Monitors? (Ideally VXT6)

I own some Fostex PM1 MK1 monitor speakers which I've used for over 10 years now, and while they are great, I'd like to try something else out. That and the fact that both of them have dents in the dust caps, one due to once storing them in a box and the other being pushed in last night by some client who's autistic in my studio. Couldn't believe it. Fortunately the sound isn't affected and it seems to remain more cosmetic with it being the dust cover. I'm thinking of selling them now though as I have another pair of these (MK II) at home and would like to try something different but that would be suitable for what I need (DnB) to see if it changes how I mix music. I've literally used PM1's since about 2003 and aside from some Genelecs once, nothing else.

I've never been a fan of the Rokits that KRK do as they felt way to dull on the upper end. My PM1's were much clearer, but the VX series are the more pro end within reason range. They are about £679 or so for a couple although I've come acoss some second hand one's for about £540 in total. I might just sell these PM1's and put it towards the cost paid for the VX. I'm specifically on about the KRK VXT6 monitors. Another good thing about these is that you can buy grills for the front of them too which I think for my line of work is probably for the better.

So has anyone had the pleasure of trying them out or better still, has a set?
 
I can't answer your question, but I'm interested in the VXT series myself. My Rokits are very pleasant speakers, but TBH they don't do very well when it comes to hearing into the mix. I often find myself having to don my DT880s just to get some more insight.
 
The way I understand it is that the VXT series have a better amp stage and that they are tuned to give a flatter, more accurate response, whereas the Rockits are very nice to listen to, but are less detailed, and have more of a "HiFi" sound rather than a "Monitor" sound.
 
Cheers guys. I was looking a pair of the Yamaha HS series, but apparently you need a sub with them...? Is it that the same with the VXTs given their flat response? Bearing in mind they would be used mostly for mixing and a little bit for production
 
That's a good question. Personally I've never felt the need for sub, certainly not with my Rokit 5s as I tend to work really in the nearfield meaning the bass I hear is plenty enough for me, even if it isn't delving down to 20Hz.

I can't really give an opinion on the VXTs as, like Optima, I'm in this thread to hear other people opinions before I can even think about pulling the trigger on them, and even then I would need to hear them for myself, preferably in my production environment, to see if they're right for me.

There's also the school of thought that places room acoustics and acoustic treatment above that of the monitors themselves, the argument being is that if you got an acoustic environment where you've got a ton of reflections bouncing around re-enforcing some frequencies and cancelling others out, then it doesn't matter what monitors you've got as your ears are not going to hear what's really going on anyway.
