Get the pod 2 guys, I picked one up for 100 dollars and it's a beast. It's got loads of distortion types, effects, even downloadable effects and it had midi in and out. It's big in the game

Mm got one, don't think it's all that prefer my toneport and that's still not that good.

I have the podX3, acts as my external soundcard/ interface.
Comes with pod farm plug-in. You're right it does have a lot of amp and cab sims + fx but they do tend to mostly sound like...well...guitar effects.
Definitely find it useful sometimes, but then I did buy it for guitar, not sure about recommending it straight out for general production. If you get it cheap then yeah, I guess.

Well I got it for both production and guitar and cheap so it suits me fine. Who knows, someone else might find it a blast
