i was thinkin of going to college this year to do a course on music production. ive been mixin for a while and i now want to start producing my own stuff. i dont actually know anyone that has done the course, so i was wondering if anyone on here had done it and whether it was worth doing.
im gonna have to fork out a decent wedge to go on the course, so i dont wanna do it then a month down the line it turns out to be shit.

any feedback will be greatly appreciated

my honest oppinion...

having done a course a while
ago i really couldnt recomend doing
one... they are expensive and
generally geared towards recording
and mixing in a studio...
something i found interesting but
not practical for my needs...
i found the course to be quite
"simple" and the general pace of learning
to be quite slow...

in this day of truly amzing "in the box"
capabilities of the home studio
i think its much more productive to spend
some money on some good monitors
and software... treat your room...
and put the hours in...

there are countless guides on line...
and numerous website (like this one)
where people are willing to share advice...

what are you trying to get out of the course...??
do you want to be a FOH or mixdown engineer..?
or do you want to write beats...

i think its better to learn through a group
of peers or a mentor (be they online or in the
flesh)... then paying through
the arse to learn how to roll up a mic cable
correctly...

Yea as sook said, depends what your wanting to get from it.
If you just want to learn how to make your own beats etc then i think the course wouldnt help you much, much better to learn by sitting down and letting the creative juices flow!

Although im thinking of doing a similar course because i think i should get some sort of qualification and basically every other subject bores the crap outta me

:word: @ sook

ive done a music technology course... and diddnt really learn much thats of any use to me

only good thing was working in great studio with a top engineer

if its music technology (btech) a lot of it is based on recording and mixing as opposed to using synth instruments etc.

so if you want to be a sound engineer it may be a good choice but if you just want to produce music the internet is a much better option.
