Some thoughts on "mainstream" Drum and bass.

Rob Swire is a decent singer, they had guitarist, bassist and drummer. If Pendulum only wanted to make shit loads of money, they could have started making completely commercial pop/rock, not a dnb/rock/metal fusion thingy. Same goes for Skrillex, who could start to make Avicii style tunes, instead of stuff that 80% of house fans hate.

I'd go crazy if I were forced to make every tune out of sine wave/low passed square and already 10000000000000 times recycled jungle breaks, 808s and 909s. I wouldn't ever started listening to guys like Evol Intent, Blu Mar Ten, Netsky, Sub Focus, pretty much any dnb artist, if I haven't heard Pendulum tracks and being like "damn this is fast, what the hell is this?", and googled it and found out that there's a whole genre called drum and bass.

I just can't believe how there's shit like Miley Cyrus, Taylor Swift, Rihanna, Justin Bieber, Martin Garrix etc. and dnb is already so small, but no we have to decide that every artist bringing something new to the table is shit, and only wants money, and anyone who says otherwise needs to be instantly assaulted, making sure people new to dnb never even get interested in the old school dnb, when the half of the community are still living in 90s.

Oldschool listeners are everywhere. There must be even those oldschool listeners of Justin Bieber who say his music nowadays is shit.

I can't see this more clearly applied than with Metallica, though. Even them want to "get the feeling of the old days" on every album. And every song sounds like "Master of Puppets" to them.

I don't think it's as clear cut as "oh. The went against the dnb rules, now they're automatically terrible".

Evolution is good. Virtually every artist has evolved, and you're right, without that evolution, things would be boring.

Like I said before though, there's a big distinction to be made between evolving as a musician, and selling out to a major label and having to change your style because of it.


For example, if Pendulum did the merging of rock and drum and bass well, I think it would've been fantastic.
However, they did not. In Silico for the most part was crap, and that's the problem with it.

Not that they weren't doing traditional drum and bass. When people change the genre and do it well I don't see anything wrong with that at all, and I champion it.
I don't get the "you can't do that with this genre" mentality.

I'd like to put this pendulum thing to rest. I can't believe from one comment from me saying that they suck, has snowballed into a huge debate, and thrown the thread off course.


The problem with them, is that they are now, crap. Not that they tried to do something different, that they changed drum and bass, what they said on DOA, etc;

It is simply, that they made good music, and now make bad music, in my opinion.

Especially when most dnb heads know that Pendulum made some belting tracks early in their career, they then chose to take a different direction than DNB.

Weather I actually meant they sucked from the very start, or later on shouldn't matter. If I thought Hold your color sucked, I would be entitled to that opinion.


You said Sigma suck, but apparently according to everyone else, It is in correct for me to say Pendulum do.
