how do i create this effect

Wondering how to create this effect, happens precisely at 3:42

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dU0MTcOwctA

It sounds like a rapid on/off switching effect similar to the "trans" effect on the pioneer mixer. I've asked this question before but been unable to figure out.

You can retrigger your synth. 8th notes or whatever but have the midi notes less than an 8th long, so there's a gap between them. Then make sure your release setting is close to zero (not quite)

Or if you are working in audio just chop a small bit off the front of the note and copy and paste them as eighth notes. (again with a gap)

edit: it's 16ths, so quantise the audio start point to 16th's, but shorten them to around 24th's to get that staccato effect.

you know, I discovered something pretty neat.

setting a ring mod to something really low like 20 hz gets you that effects too
