Music industry figures yesterday renewed their calls for a CD price cut by lowering VAT on them to 5%. Performers including sir Elton John (pictured) joined music publishers, composers and managers in a plea to EU finance ministers to treat music the same as other 'cultural products'
VAT on sound recordings is set between 15 - 25% across Europe, but reduced rates as low as 5% apply to magazines, newspapers, books and tickets for cinema, theatres and concerts
