dumb question? about converting to 320 MP3

I export the file out of cubase or whatever, and it's AIFF format. Then to convert it to MP3 I have to put the file into iTunes, the go to ADVANCED and then select convert to MP3. Now the file becomes 128, or 280kbs I think. What's the right way to do this without losing the kbs quality?
 
hate i tunes for 1... this one of many gay reasons, but i imagine it would be in an options/preferences menu somewhere?

get a pro audio tool like.... audition/soundbooth, audacity, sound forge etc!
 
Use Audacity, once you'll Downloaded and installed you'll also need a MP3 dll file, (which Audacity will link you to when you try it), go to File>Export to MP3, then BAM
