To Be Released On Both CD and 5.1 Surround Sound DVD
SAN FRANCISCO, CA - On January 27, 2004 :/run recordings, a division of Lakeshore Records will release Meat Beat Manifesto's new album entitled ...In Dub. Two discrete formats will be available: a stereo CD and a 5.1 Surround Sound DVD complete with visuals, titled ...In Dub 5.1 Surround.

...In Dub is a uniquely different kind of release. Taking the starting point and cues from several of the songs on last year's R.U.O.K.? album, ...In Dub re-imagines them, often ending up far away from where the original song began. And in some cases, what has emerged is not even a version of a song on R.U.O.K.?, but a whole new creation that may just bear a tiny reminder or stamp of an idea on the last album. Five songs include the startling one-take toasting talents of the Bay Area's DJ Collage on the microphone, grounding this ultra-modern music back into its Jamaican dub roots to express a special continuum. Though it shares some lineage and spirit with R.U.O.K.?, it is definitely a whole new album.
As a producer, Meat Beat Manifesto's Jack Dangers has long been at the forefront of the digital music revolution, audibly influencing everything around him and providing the architectural audio blueprints for contemporary artists as wide ranging as Nine Inch Nails and the Chemical Brothers. Now with the use of 5.1 Surround Sound at his fingertips, Dangers presents a transforming take on the traditional that allows sounds to bounce between speakers and dance around a room in a way previously only hypothesized. Meat Beat Manifesto albums have always been delightfully upfront and attention grabbing, but ...In Dub 5.1 Surround places the listener right at the beating heart of the action like never before. "To be able to position a sound anywhere between six speakers is very liberating and inspiring," says Jack Dangers on the use of the 5.1 Surround Sound format. "I've got different pieces coming out of each speaker and moving into the middle and doing weird things. Doing a dub record with it is unbelievable, it just calls for that. It's always been trapped in this stereo field and is now unleashed!"
It's long been a favorite device for Meat Beat Manifesto to revisit and reconstruct sparking ideas into alternate song versions, the culmination of which is this special project. For consumers with compatible equipment the DVD launches you into an immersive experience that explores both technology and nature as it hops between international locales like Tokyo, Amsterdam and the home base of San Francisco as sensuously as it does outer space dreamscapes. Acclaimed motion-graphics artist and video director Ben Stokes (DJ Shadow) mans the visual controls, with some valuable input and footage from Dangers.
The two are regular collaborators, and the duo behind the critically acclaimed (and DJ's best friend) Tino Corp. project and label of the same name. They've honed an effortless synergy of their considerable talents over the years. Here, the audio and visuals were created simultaneously - some songs even feature alternating camera angles and footage - making for intimately connected visual interpretations of Meat Beat Manifesto.
